Quote: West Hollywood is a predominantly gay male community where it seems lesbians are also accepted and the ocaisional stray straight folks are tolerated. The city offers excellent shopping, dining, and people-watching, but the shining jewel in this community's crown - or should I say, tiara - is the Halloween Carnival, a street festival that could soon rival Mardi Gras.

Overview

Quote:
You must wander Santa Monica Boulevard on Halloween evening and you will be treated to a rainbow of creative, clever, shocking, stunning, and hilarious costumes.

Eat at Hamburger Mary's for the ambiance but go to Basix Cafe or the French Market Cafe for the food.

Shop at Surrender, Dorothy gift shop or Out of the Closet thrift store.

Quick Tips:

Get your hotel reservations early!

Best Way To Get Around:

The community is small. Get a hotel in the heart of the activity and you can easily walk anywhere you need to go.

The rooms were certainly adequate, but the main draws to the Ramada during the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival are the hotel's central location and affordable price.

Staff were costumed for Halloween and so were patrons, most rather scantily so. Food included enormous hamburgers and seasoned french fries. Checks were delivered in a woman's red shoe. Patrons were predominantly beautiful men.

French Market Cafe seeks to recreate the New Orleans French Market ambiance and offers a wide variety of tasty foods at a fair price. Quaint gift shops encircle this indoor courtyard.

The Getty Museum is a huge collection of works gathered by a collector and enhanced by the managers of his estate after his death. The building itself is a work of art worthy of photographing as well.
