Quote: We spent one week on the island of St. Martin/St. Maarten and it was as wonderful as our last trip which was nine years ago. It's a laid back island although the traffic has gotten pretty heavy. There are many activities and sites to enjoy such as all of the popular water sports, exploring all the beaches, and dining of course. Enjoying the two cultures of the French and Dutch sides of the island is enjoyable and having the freedom of traveling back and forth at will makes it easy.

A week in St. Martin paradise

We enjoyed a day trip to St. Barths on a high-speed catamaran. It only takes 45 minutes, and you have six hours on the island. St. Barths is quieter with less traffic and fewer people if you want to do some shopping, hit the beach without crowds, or just explore. We went across the lagoon to Marigot by boat from the Pelican Resort Marina. It's an inexpensive and fast way to get there and they will come over to bring you back just about any time you would like. Quick Tips: Best Way To Get Around: We used taxis and the bus to get around. The taxis can be a bit tricky because they must be called from the hotel/restaurant, etc. you are at and can take from five to twenty five minutes t...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Mini-Mart; Marina with various day boats/activities; Beach; several restaurants within walking distance to resort.Best Things About the Resort:Resort location, beach, and view. The staff was always very courteous and helpful whenever needed. Resort Experience:The Flamingo Beach Resort was wonderful and I would recommend it to everyone. The resort is located on Simpson Bay Beach with views of sunsets, surf, and many types and sizes of boats coming and going. We stayed in a studio which was extremely large with a full kitchen, bath, and king-size bed. It also had a large living room area with a screen that can close off the rest of the unit...Read More

We had dinner at Saratoga for my birthday and it couldn't have been better. It was recommended to us and we had a reservation. By the time we left, it was packed with waiting room only. We had a table outside by the water where we could watch the boats, fish jumping, and enjoy the general atmosphere.

St. Barts

St. Barts Photo, St. Maarten/St. Martin, Caribbean
St. Barts is a nearby island to St. Martin and easily accessible by high-speed catamaran. It makes a great day trip, and you're able to spend several hours on the island, which is time enough to do a lot of exploring. The beaches are beautiful with very fine white sand that feels wonderful on the feet. Shops are small and friendly with some real bargains. You can hire a taxi to take you touring or rent your own car for a few hours and explore on your own. Also, many places are within walking distance of the harbor. On a previous trip, we purchased bread, wine, and cheese from a market, then walked to Shell Beach to enjoy our "picnic" and the heavenly water. It's a very relaxing island without cruise...Read More
