Overview

We stayed in Fish Creek, one of eight small communities that offer good food, shopping, and beautiful scenery. Peninsula State Park is the third largest Wisconsin State Park. It offers a wide range of activities from hiking to biking to boating to swimming. If you wish to experience a traditional Door County fish boil, one of the best is located at the Old Post Office Restaurant. A very entertaining evening was spent at the Peninsula Players Theatre, America's oldest professional resident summer theatre. If fishing is your sport you can do fishing from the many docks or charter a salmon fishing excursion on Lake Michigan. Shop 'til you drop is definitely part of Door County's attraction for me. There are many unique and different shops to attract all types of shoppers. Anything from antiques to apparel to speciality is available.

Quick Tips:

Be sure to make your accommodation reservations early, especially if you are going to be there during the peak season. I would also suggest exploring the website http://www.doorcountyvacations.com

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around from one small town to another is by car. To explore one of the towns, be sure to bring good walking shoes!

Apple Creek Resort
The AppleCreek Resort is conveniently located across the street from a small shopping center that houses 24 unique shops and some restaurants. It is also one block from the Peninsula State Park entrance. They offer a variety of room types from small, single queen rooms to two room suites with private two person whirlpool, fireplace, and private balcony. All guest rooms are connected by indoor corridors leading to the indoor pool, whirlpool and lobby. The second floor double queen room was large enough to include a table and a sofa. Also provided was a small refrigerator so that we could enjoy a breakfast on the balcony. Not only was the room kept clean, but the entire facililty was very well maintained. The staff were very friendly and accommodated our request to change rooms so we could be next door to my sister.

Post Office Restaurant
The Old Post Office Restaurant is the place to visit for an evening of a traditional Fish Boil. Be sure to arrive early to watch outdoors behind the restaurant the "boil fish master" create the "boil over," which signals that the catch is ready to serve. The menu for this traditional feast included boiled whitefish, small red potatoes, small white onions, a variety of fresh homemade lemon, pumpkin, and rye breads. For dessert their fresh baked cherry pie should not be passed over.

Be sure to get a window seat or request outdoor seating, if the weather permits, to enjoy Door County's beautiful sunset overlooking Eagle Harbor. A word to the wise: whitefish has lots of bones so be sure to take special care to eat slowly and carefully.

This open sided theatre is unique because it is in a beautiful setting. If you arrive early enough you can stroll along the shores of Green Bay as the sun is setting, or you can relax on one of the chairs or benches that are amongst the trees in the cedar woods.

The Peninsula Players are a group of professional actors and portray their assigned character with enthusiasm. Both times we have attended, we had a very enjoyable and entertaining evening.
