Bahamas Break

A November 2002 trip to Freeport by TheOldBat

We stayed at the Ocean Reef Yacht Club & Resort located on a beautiful inland waterway. Our unit was a lovely I bedroom apt overlooking the marina. The landscaping & amenities were quite satisfactory. The staff was very friendly.A very relaxing, laid-back location.

Overview

Snorkeling is very popular, as is scuba diving. The resort hosts a fun Welcome Party with complimentary buffet and Bahama Mama drinks. An exciting place to dine is Pier One, where sharks are fed on the hour to the delight and wonder of the patrons.

Quick Tips:

For Canadian visitors , this area is very expensive to visit. The food at the resort was not very good. I would suggest cooking your own or eating elsewhere. There were a few buffet nights offered, but not much variety, and not well prepared.

The resort did offer a scheduled grocery run and beach run that was very helpful. Port Lucaya was only a mile or so away but too far to walk in the heat.

Best Way To Get Around:

We found taking buses (public transportation) the most efficient and fun. There are designated bus stops, however most buses would pick you up and drop you off almost anywhere for a fee of .

Best Things About the Resort:
Unit was very well equipped.

Resort Experience:
The resort is situated on a picturesque inland waterway with many yachts moored there. It is fairly quiet as it is away from the "action" and nightlife. The activities director had events planned during the week including a fun Welcome Party with food and drink complimentary.

The food served at the Sunset Grill was not very good.

The casino and International Bazaar were a short bus ride in one direction, and Port Lucaya was a short bus ride in the other direction. You had the option of enjoying the excitement of the nightlife in Port Lucaya, or relaxing poolside where it was a little quieter.

Fishing and scuba diving trips could be accessed at the resort. There was also a tennis court and children's play area.
