week in Breckenridge CO

A November 2002 trip to Breckenridge by Micki Hernandez

We were there 1 wk prior to ski season and most of the restaurants had 2 /1 deals on dinners. Stayed in then MARK IX Condominiums and highly recommend it. The pictures do not do it justice. The place was great. The only place that had its own hot tub.

The snow. Love the snow, and the room was great. Breckenridge was much better than all the other places we visited. we did not ski, but he people were friendly and we were able to find tons to keep us busy. There were plenty of logs for the fireplace and the back porch was accessible from the parking lot, you had to go down you neighbors back porch but you could do it.

Look in your local paper for deals and coupons for all the local restaurants.

Quick Tips:

Chat with the locals, they are great. We shopped at a great soap store. The "Milagros of Colorado" great souvieners for all the women you know. the soaps are made there inb Breck and leave you smelling great. I had to buy a few bars myself. check out their website. www.miagrosofco.com

Best Way To Get Around:

Main street is only about 2 miles long so walking is a good option. There is a free shuttle bus that goes throughout the town. It passes through all the stops every 30 minutes. We stayed in the Mark IX condominiums and it was close, but not within walking distance of main street. The shuttle passed right by our front door though.

Rasta PastaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

If you want some Italian you have to try Rasta Pasta. It is not the easiest place to find - it's kind of hiding there on Main Street. The food is great. Not your typical pasta dishes, but they are full of flavor and very reasonably priced. All the food was creted by a master chef. You can got to their web page for more info. Highly recommend. FYI - they use alot of garlic.

Bubba Gump Shrimp CompanyBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Bubba Gump Shrimp Co."

I recommend the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. The seafood was great. You have to get the hushpuppies - they have mahi-mahi in them along with shrimp and corn. They are cooked just to a golden brown. I also have to say they have the BEST RIBS around and WE are from AUSTIN, TEXAS. They do not even bring a knife with the ribs. The meat just falls off the bone. They are great.

A laid back place to eat is Downstairs at Eric’s - they have everything from great pizza to hamburgers to a vast beer selection. The food was great - I highly recommend the pizza and buffalo burger.

If you feel like Mexican, Mi Casa is the place. The food was great. The restaurant is located near the Riverwalk, so you can enjoy the view of the water while you eat. Food was great - if you want hotter salsa just ask waiter and he will bring you some. It's hot but good. They have great Sopapillas for dessert.
