Super Singapore Best of IgoUgo

Overview

Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Orchard Road. And so much more. Clarke Quay, Raffles Hotel. Quick Tips: Don't go out without a bottle of water. Persperation is not optional, you will sweat just standing still, but don't let that put you off.Best Way To Get Around: Public transport is great here. Trains and buses are frequent and cheap, use a card which can be topped up, what you don't use can be refunded. Taxis are also relativly cheap (compared to home) but you don't travel very fast due to traffic congestion. Train is best if there is a station near to where you are staying, or don't mind a walk. I has a bus stop almost outside my hotel door so I used it most of the time going to...Read More

Long Wharf Resort Best of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Fragrance Hotel"

This was a very basic hotel; it had tea and coffee things, an IDD phone, a TV that worked, separate bathroom, the bed was OK. My room didn't have a window and I guess I could have upgraded but I was on a tiny budget so I didn't. I was out most of the time so I did not see the room much. The bathroom was spotless and the water was hot.

I ate here a few times because the food was cheap and good with a variety of choice.

There are pictures of each dish to help one to choose.

Singapore Zoo Best of IgoUgo

Attraction

This Zoo is one of the best I've seen and it compares favourably with Perth Zoo which could use a little more shade. The animals look well.

There are pleanty of eating places, and one can buy film. I needed to, I used up 3X40 films.

There are a lot of people visiting this Zoo it is very busy so expect to line up for everything. Toilets are western.

Absolutly totally indescribably great. I went on my last night in Singapore after missing the Perth performance. I resisted the temptation to pay for a VIP seat and was glad I did as I found the seat I had only 3 rows from the stage. The performers were almost in my lap at some times.

And the Singapore audience? Wonderful, interactive and responsive. It was a night I shall never forget.

This place had me in tears, I am a watering pot at the best of times, I seem to soak up atmosphere too. I was most touched by the courage of those people, they maintained dignity and a sense of humour through such hard times.

I think I was lucky in that there was a thunderstorm while I was waiting for the bus to the Zoo, the rain stopped during the bus ride and by the time the park opened there was a real jungle feel about the place. Winding tracks through what appeared at times to be undergrowth, with rain drops falling from the overhanging canopy above.

Take the train ride first not later, as the line may not be so long, I had over 30 mins to wait and as I was alone with no one to talk to it felt quite long. Also I was very tired as I had been out walking all day so plan to have a less strenuous day.

You could be forgiven for thinking that Singapore is one giant shapping mall. From budget to boutiques you can get enything in Singapore, except shoes to fit me. I was not there for the shopping, prices are much like home, but I love walking round and comparing prices, I think thats window shopping. I loved Suntec City Mall and the Fountain of Wealth. I liked Orchard Rd., there was a hair styling exhibition in the street while I was there.

Quan Yin Temple Best of IgoUgo

This is a very colourful temple, and very busy. It was the only one I actually went into. I was a bit paranoid about leaving my shoes outside in the street (next time I will have a bag to put them in and carry them with me).

Quan Yin is the Goddess of Love and Mercy, she is a female Buddha who has made a vow not to enter Nirvana till all beings have achieved enlightenment. She is special to me.

Fantastic decorations. I did not go into the Temple as there was a large tour group waiting to go in, but the carvings outside are to be marveled at.

Arrival Best of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Quote:
I found Changi Airport to be very easy to navigate. I spent some time beforehand checking out the Internet site so I had a fair idea where to go. I was pleased to find that the train line to the airport had been completed, and opened about two weeks before my arrival, so I was able to take the train to Paya Lebar station then walk to my hotel in Joo Chat Road. From the station to the hotel is about a 15-minute walk, but it was only 7am and not too hot yet. Just a word here about maps--they bear almost no relation to the actual physical landscape. A short walk on a map can be very far on foot, and buildings make things confusing. Still, I was glad for the time I spent looking at maps of the are...Read More

Story/Tip

Although I was only in Singapore for 10 days I had a great time. I had thoroughly researched what I was going to see and do and thought that I would have plenty of time to carry out the plan. Not enough time!!! I did see and do a lot. I even went to Sentosa Island to see the musical fountain, and loved it!!

I had been told by Singaporeans I work with that 10 days was too long to spend in Singapore. It was not, so I will have to return to catch up on the things I missed, and the things I want to do again, like the Night Safari.

Next time I will make sure my hotel room has a window. I will take more money.
