The best things were fly-fishing, tennis, hiking, miniature golf, and just relaxing at the resort.

Quick Tips:

Canaan (pronounced Kah NANE') Valley is the highest valley in the eastern U.S. It can get cool at night in the summer and the weather can be variable. Come prepared for warm, cool, or rainy weather.

Driving.

Best Things About the Resort:
Large units, two-story townhouse design, full size washer and dryer, large whirlpool bath on main floor.

Resort Experience:
As one enters the unit, one immediately notices the full size washer and dryer on the right and the full bath with large whirlpool tub on the left. Next one would enter the full kitchen with dining area to the left. From the dining area one would go past the fireplace (on the left) to the living area with sleep sofa and TV. The stairs to the two bedrooms on the upper floor are to the right, just past the kitchen. There are two bedrooms on the second floor, one with twin beds, the other with what I recall as a queen size. There is another full bath with shower on the second floor.

There are window air conditioners in the living room and master bedroom. A sliding glass door in the living area opens onto a deck facing the tennis courts, pool, and shuffleboard areas.

My son loved it, particularly because there were so many things for us to do together at the resort: tennis, miniature golf, shuffleboard, billiards, swim, etc. He would give it a nine on a scale of one to ten, and if the mini-golf course and furnishings were in better shape, he would have given it a ten.

We enrolled in the two day fly fishing school offered by Tory Mountain Outfitters. We essentially had private lessons by experienced guides in fly fishing for two days and one and a half days in streams. We really enjoyed being outside learning a new skill, and even catching (and releasing) some trout.
