2 WEEKS IN PARADISE

A May 1993 trip to Cancun by Mccoun

Quote: CANCUN IS, WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE I'VE BEEN! WHO CAN RESIST THE APPEAL OF WHITE SAND BEACHES THAT FEEL AS SOFT AS POWDER BETWEEN YOUR TOES? OR THE GENTLE, YET BRISK ENOUGH TO COOL YOU OFF BREEZE THAT FLOWS OVER YOU?

2 WEEKS IN PARADISE

Overview

Quote:
YOU DEFINATELY NEED TO TALK TO YOUR HOTEL PEOPLE ABOUT TAKING A DAY (OR NIGHT!!) TRIP OR 2!! THERE ARE SEVERAL SITES IN THE AREA THAT SHOULD NOT BE MISSED. (EX: XCARET, THE RUINS, ETC.) THE ALSO CAN BOOK YOU ONTO AN EVENING TRIP. THERE ARE SEVERAL 'PARTY COMPANYS' THAT OFFER NIGHT TIME CRUISES TO THEIR PRIVATLY OWNED SMALL ISLANDS. COCKTAILS FLOW FREELY WHILE ON BOARD, AND AT THE ISLAND. THE ALSO HAVE A LUAU TYPE CELEBRATION FOR DINNER, AND SEVERAL GAMES AND ACTIVITES TO OCCUPY YOUR TIME. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INDULGE IN TOO MANY LIBATIONS THOUGH, THE WATER CAN BE CHOPPY ON YOUR RETURN TRIP TO THE MAINLAND!! ;)Quick Tips: BE SURE TO KNOW YOUR PESO/DOLLAR EXCHANGE RATE! SOMETIMES THE LOCAL...Read More

Sheraton Cancun Resort and Towers

Hotel | "SHERATON CANCUN RESORT TOWERS"

Quote:
THE RESORT WAS FABULOUS! MARBLE EVERYTHING! THE FLOORS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING (INCLUDING OUR ROOM!), HUGE PLANTERS, REGISTRATION DESK, STEPS AND STAIRS THROUGHOUT THE HOTEL, BATHTUB AND COUNTER TOP, TABLE IN OUR ROOM, ETC,ETC,...ALL REAL MARBLE!! THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL IN PLANNING OUR STAY IN MEXICO AND MAKING SURE ALL OF OUR NEEDS WERE MET. THE RESORT HAD MINI-GOLF ON SITE AS WELL AS THE HAMMOCK GARDENS, A LOVELY PLACE TO SPEND AN AFTERNOON AMIDST THE PALM TREES! THEY ALSO HAD RUINS TO EXPLORE AND ARE LOCATED ON A LOOOOONG STRETCH OF BEAUTIFUL WHITE BEACH AND CRYSTAL CLEAR (WARM!) AQUA WATER. THEY HAD SEVERAL RESTAURANTS ON SITE, BUT I DEFINITLY RECOMMEND THE HUG...Read More

There are many of these in the US, and I have been to several, but this was by far the best! This particular location is my favorite restaurant that I have ever been to! You have to have a steak, try the scalloped potatos as well. You will not be disappointed!

Xcaret

Attraction

Quote:
XCARET IS A PURE BOTANICAL PARK. YOU ARE NOT TO TAKE ANY FOOD ITEMS IN, NOR TANNING LOTION. BASICALLY NOTHING THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CONTAMINATE THE AREA. THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY DAY WAS THE UNDERGROUND CAVERN. YOU WERE REQUIRED TO RENT A LIFEJACKET, AND SNORKELS AND FINS WERE OPTIONAL. (I RECOMMEND GETTING THOSE TOO!) IT'S AN UNDERGROUND STREAM THAT RUNS QUITE A DISTANCE THROUGH A CAVERN. PARTS ARE SO SHALLOW THAT YOU MAY NEED TO BEND YOUR LEGS TO AVOID THE ROCKY BOTTOM, AND OTHER AREAS SO DEEP THAT THROUGH THE CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER THE BOTTOM SEEMS A MILE DOWN. SOME SPOTS ARE DARK, WHILE OTHERS HAVE OPENINGS (CRACKS) IN THE CEILING THAT LETS RAYS OF SUNLIGHT SLICE INTO THE CAVERN. IT'S A BEAUT...Read More

Planet Hollywood

Attraction

Quote:
Most of us have been to Planet Hollywood in the states to eat, but here it's a different experience. It's still a restaurant with a fun Hollywood theme, but it's also used as more of a nightclub as well. There are three bars, one on each level, and a small dancing area. We went to many clubs in Cancun, but this is where we started each night out at! Definitely try some of the frilly 'girly' drinks! They're actually pretty strong! Plus, the staff really goes out of their way to fit the Hollywood theme and make you feel like a star!

Downtown Open Air Market

Attraction | "DOWNTOWN OPEN AIR MARKETS"

Quote:
You should not miss the downtown open air markets. They are basically flea markets selling every type of souvenir from Mexico that you could want. They have some quality goods, jewelry and marble items, clothing, typical touristy souvenir items, housewares, etc.

I wouldn't recommend the shopping malls, as they are not anywhere near what we have in the States. They are set up the same, indoors with many stores, but many of the shops are Cancun t-shirts, beach towels, and things along those lines. I tried to find a new outfit for dinner and found nothing suitable.
