Other things to do if you like to learn the history of a region is a trip to Aberdeen/Hoquiam. There is Hoquiam's Castle, which is now a B and B that sometimes has tours. Also there are two great small museums; one is the Polsom Museum located in a 26 room mansion that belonged to lumber entrereneur Arnold Polson. The other is the Aberdeen Museum of History.
Trips to Westport include seeing the Westport Maritime Museum and the Westport Lighthouse, also called Beacon Lighthouse. It was built in 1897. Trips to Grays Harbor to see cranberry bogs. Olympia is only an hour and a half away to see Capitol Museum. Very close to Ocean Shores is the Quinault Indian Casino.
Quick Tips:
If driving, it is only one and a half hours from Olympia on good roads - only another hour from Seattle. The grocery store in Ocean Shores is very well stocked and is almost within walking distance to the Windjammer. A huge Safeway store is located in Aberdeen. The best restaurant is Alec's Seafood, which is very good. Mount Ranier and Mount Shasta are a bit far away to see on day trips, but you might plan your travel around seeing these two wonders.Best Way To Get Around:
You must have a car for traveling away from Ocean Shores, but bikes are great in and around the local area. Read Less
