Marco Island, a place in the sun and great family

A May 1993 trip to Marco Island by scoutrader

Not only doctors and lawyers like to go to Marco Island to conference and golf.... but families truly like the place too! Its a great getaway in the spring time before the crowds set in.

Walking the beautiful beaches and searching for unusual sea shells is one of the kids favorite activities here. And the bike riding and exploring is fun, along with the fine art galleries and restaurants in both Marco Island and nearby Naples are a must-do!

The bald eagles that nest in Marco are quite exceptional, and it's only a short drive to "alligator alley" and boat rides through the Florida swamps. Beaches are tremendous, and the timeshares are luxurious with many amenities for the children.

In nearby Naples an art collector can buy a real LeRoy Neiman painting or a Gruppe (from the famous Gruppe family from New England AND Florida).

Swimming is great in the warm waters, and it's just a nice quiet setting to really unwind.

Quick Tips:

Try to avoid the bug season, when most Floridians live inside screened porches! Springtime is wonderful.

Best Way To Get Around:

A car or a bicycle is the way to go.

Best Things Nearby:
Best of all, you're waterfront at the beach, and you can enjoy those beautiful dramatic skies as well as wonderful times in the water. It's also fun to see all the channels built by Del Webb so that residents of Marco had boats "right at their door". Great quiet streets for biking.

Best Things About the Resort:
EVERY unit has a view, since the building was built in such a way that all units have unobstructed views of the beach and water. Now that's special, and, too, every unit is very enjoyable, and the onsite swimming pools and recreational amenities are exceptional.

When we were there we even had free access to bicycles and things to play with at the water. While others were paying hefty fees to stay at the Hilton next door, we were staying in a far more luxurious two bedroom suite and enjoying our "free ride".

Great office staff, very service oriented, and just great things to keep kids busy program wise.

Resort Experience:
Charter Club is my favorite of all the Marco Island resorts, and while it's a large facility, it's very efficient and will be loved by every member of the family.

While the probability is your room will be stories off the ground, the elevators give easy access and it's nice to have a timeshare equipped with everything! The pool is very large and very nice. Just open those drapes and take in the marvelous view! That's what everyone has who enjoys the Charter Club.

We loved the atmosphere of this fine restaurant set on the grounds of the Olde Marco Island Inn.

It's an intimate setting and has excellent service. It's not as much a family restaurant as it is a nice quiet place to enjoy your "somebody special".

I very much enjoyed the rack of lamb, but other specialties they're noted for are seafood dishes and filet mignon, and various chicken dishes.

This is not the place to go and come away with a feeling you've been bargain hunting. Its a place to take someone special when you're prepared to spend some money and enjoy the best in dining.

Rated one of the 10 best restaurants in SW Florida with the best view and best seafood, this restaurant has fine food and also fine wines.

A dinner salad will cost from 6 to 8 dollars, and a shrimp cocktail about $13 (as will other appetizers). Duck costs $26, a sirloin $31, and seafood main courses cost from about $25 and up. So by the time a person's finished the evening the tab will be high. But the experience makes the restaurant well worth the money.
