Scottsdale AZ

An August 2001 trip to Scottsdale by monkeys

Quote: It is hot this time of year - over 100 degress, but yet it was tolerable. There are very few tourists this time of year - so going out for dinner there is no wait and the attractions had very few tourists. Scottsdale was quite nice - it is a major city. Staying here made it easy to see Arizona's sights. The old town was quite amazing. They have some of the old structures, such as a General Store, a jail, etc. right in the middle of town. This was nice to look at and see how what it was like in the 1800's. There is quite a bit of history in this town and well worth exploring.

Scottsdale AZ

Overview

Quote:
Grand Canyon - it's a long trek, but well worth it. We took a tour, which was nice because someone else did the driving and you got to sit in the van and enjoy the scenery. The red rock formations were gorgeous as well. They are definitely based upon your own interpretation.

Quick Tips:

Take a tour to the Grand Canyon - it allows you to have the time to see the countryside and to enjoy the Grand Canyon itself without worrying about traffic and getting back.

Best Way To Get Around:

Tours and rental cars. There are many restaurants, but not all of them are near each other. To walk could be a bit much in the heat.

Best Things Nearby:The restaurants. There were many to choose from. You never really had to think about where to go. You just drive down the street and pretty much any of the restaurants were very good.Best Things About the Resort:The location.Resort Experience:It is a nice resort and its location made it convenient to do some Arizona sight seeing. The PGA golf course is right next door. The resort does not have a restaurant, but there were many to choose from down the road. The staff was very helpful and courteous. They offered impeccable directions and aided in booking tours. We had a one bedroom/one bath/ full kitchen which was quite spacious. Th...Read More

At first, we thought this was just going to be another one of those typical chain restaurants that are all over the U.S., but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh and delicious. This is a Mexican restaurant. The tortilla chips are not out of a bag and the salsa is fresh. The service was very courteous and extremely accomodating. They offered everything from tacos to burritos to fish and chicken. We chose the quesadillas and they were excellent.

The menu was pages long. It was very hard deciding what to eat. There were many delicious choices to choose from. Everything from pasta to steak to sandwiches to fish. The menu catered pretty much all cuisines. I had a pasta entry and it was delicious. The combination of the sauce with the chicken was outrageous.

How could I forget the dessert menu. There are many choices. It is another book of the dessert listings. They are reknown for there cheesecakes. Not only for the varieties, but also because they are exceptional.

It is a garden-like setting that allows visitors to see these animals in their natural habitat. The animals are seen in unrehearsed, educational programs everyday. Everything is real. The shows depict the animals primal behavior. It can be quite warm - if you intend on visit this then trying going in the morning because the sun is in full force during the afternoon and there really is no shade so to speak.

The show and atmosphere took you back to the 1880s. They had built a replica of the Old West, complete with shoot-outs and stagecoaches. It is well worth the experience, and kids love it. They get involved in the shoot-outs - good versus evil. The steakhouse was fabulous as well. The food was fresh and delicious.
