Quote: Whistler is one of my favorite destinations. I have lived/worked/visited whistler whenever I have had the chance over the past 10 yrs. It has evolved into a year round resort that truly has something for everyone. Here are some of my favorite places to stay, eat, and have fun.

Skiing whistler after heavy snowfall
roller blading valley trail
mtn biking
cross country skiing ... too many to list!

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking is by far the best and easiest way to get around Whistler. There is even a free shuttle throughout the village area if you have skis or are feeling lazy. Cabs are easily found in case you need to get to one of the more distant residential areas (or creekside).

Fairmont Chateau Whistler

Best Of IgoUgo

Hotel

Quote:
The Chateau Whistler was built to be the most luxurious hotel in town and it maintains that status today. In my opinion, it still remains the only full service hotel in town. Most all other properties (including the Westin, Sheraton, Pan Pacific etc) have taken the condominium approach where investors buy each individual unit. This is fine, but you won’t find the same quality or breadth of services that the chateau offers anywhere else. The hotel is located at the base of Blackcomb, which is about a ten minute walk to whistler village. This is a not a major inconvenience because there is also ski run access to whistler from the top of the beginner slope on Blackcomb. The hotel also has a free sh...Read More

One thing many tourists don’t realize is that most accommodations in Whistler are owned by individuals, but often zoned for overnight rentals. These are often marketed under famous hotel brands (e.g., Holiday Inn, Sheraton, Radisson). However, booking directly with the owners will often get you a better price, more personalized service, and accommodation that feels more like a home. Also, by booking directly with owners, your options for accommodations are much greater (than through a travel agent or major reservation system). Two of my favorite places to stay are: Montebello Townhomes These are large three or four bedroom town homes that are located in whistler village north....Read More

Rimrock Cafe

Restaurant | "Rimrock Café and Oyster Bar"

Quote:
Rim Rock Café has been in Whistler forever. Many other high-profile places have opened in recent years, but the rim-rock is still one of the best. It is a standalone building between Whistler Village and Creekside. You’ll probably want to take your car or hop in a cab because it’s a long walk. The restaurant serves west-coast cuisine which is almost always good. Fresh seafood but also choices for meat-lovers and vegetarians. The décor is also very west coast with light woods, west coast art and a nice fireplace. Service is professional and courteous. This is definitely an upscale restaurant but doesn’t feel nearly as pretentious as other places in town. It’s comfortable and great after...Read More

Splitz Grill

Restaurant | "Splitz Grill (best value in Whistler)"

Quote:
Splitz Grill is probably one of the best values is Whistler. It is located a bit out of the way underneath the alpenglow hotel (across from 7-eleven), however only a couple minutes from the village center. Most locals will definantly know this place. You can get a complete meal for less than $10cdn (and there´s no table service, so no tips are necessary). This is, however, no McDonald´s. The place probably makes the best hamburgers you´ll ever have. You choose exactly what toppings / sauces you want (make sure to get Splitz sauce). They also have ice cream and other menu items (wraps etc), but the burgers are by far the best. The owner is a former chef at the Chateau Whistler and the professio...Read More

This is my favorite bar in Whistler. You’ll find a great variety of local and imported beer, live music on most nights, and a great atmosphere. There is even darts for when the conversation gets dry. The bar is located in the Pan Pacific Lodge at the base of the Whistler lifts. Although its location makes it an automatic favorite for après ski, the place has a large local following and maintains its authenticity and intimate feel. The crowd is generally older, but you’ll find people from all age groups. The food is somewhat standard pub-fare. I’d say this makes it more authentic except for the price. Go for drinks, not dinner. If you like good beer and Irish music, you won’t be disappointed. ...Read More

If you are visiting Whistler in the summer and are looking for an enjoyable day-hike, Garibaldi Lake is a great option. It is accessed by a 20min dirt road from the ‘Fuction Junction’ area of whistler. You should be able to get there in most vehicles. Ask any local for directions. The hike, which leads down to the lake, takes about 1.5-2hrs each way. It is not at all strenuous but you should be somewhat fit. The lake is strikingly beautiful and a nice place to break for lunch. The lake is close to freezing year round so don’t bother bringing your bathing suit. I’ve heard the trail gets busy on peak summer days, but have never experienced this myself. This trail is a great introduction to some...Read More

Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort

Attraction | "Harmony Bowls on Whistler Mountain"

Quote:
Skiing Whistler on any day is usually a treat, but if you’re lucky enough to be there the day after a snowfall, take advantage by heading to Harmony Bowls on Whistler Mountain. I highly recommend getting out of bed early to take advantage of ‘fresh tracks’, a Whistler program that allows you to take the lift up at 7:30am and have breakfast at the top. This costs around $15 including breakfast (in addition to your lift ticket). As soon as the ski patrol gives the go-ahead you‘re free to enjoy the mountain with only a few others. You should get a good 2 hrs of skiing before any real crowd materializes. And if the weather’s good, this is an absolutely amazing experience. The Harmony Area is wide op...Read More
