Overview

There are great trails to hike in the Smoky mountains, or if you prefer, there are driving tours, the most traveled being the one to Cades Cove, an early pioneer settlement. Dollywood always provides good seasonal entertainment and fun for all ages. There are numerous theaters featuring artists such as Louise Mandrell. You can "shop til you drop" at the outlet stores. Resturants abound with good food and reasonable prices. The towns of Sevierville and Gatlinburg offer other amenities. Side trips to the Biltmore Estate (Asheville) and the Cherokee Indian Reservation (Maggie Valley) in North Carolina are within a two hour drive. Located about an hour away is Knoxville. The zoo is a favorite sidetrip for children. We have visited the area both in the fall and spring. Each season has been delightful.

Quick Tips:

Drive up to Cade's Cove on weekdays to avoid heavier weekend traffic. Attend the owner/guest breakfast at the resort as a lot of free tickets to area shows and entertainment are given away. Be sure to eat at the Apple Barn Resturant and have a "fried apple pie". The Catfish Shack, The Old Mill, and Sagebrush (peanuts go on the floor) resturants are also a must. Visit the Christmas Village. Check to see what's happening at the Convention Center in Gatlinburg and in Patriot's Park. There is usually a lot of craft shows. You can get a list of the weeks' activities by stopping at the Chamber of Commerce. The chamber, as well as the resort, have numerous coupons for discounts to area attractions, shows and eateries. There is a Kroger Grocery and a Walmart for shopping needs. There is a lot of things to do and see in the area. You will wonder where all the days went and wish you had more time to spend there. That is why we bought our timeshare; which we have never traded. We look forward to each return visit.

Best Way To Get Around:

We get around in town by car or take the trolley to nearby stores or eateries. All of the traffic lights are numbered, which makes locations easy to find on their maps. The chamber can furnish you with a free map of the area.Ridge Road, where the timeshare is located, is excellent to travelon. It is a good connector road that will get you out of the congested traffic areas. Knoxville is the closest airport. It is abou an hours' drive away.

Applewood Farmhouse GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant "

The menu has a good variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrees. Food is well-prepared with more than ample portions. Service is excellent. Be prepared to have to wait the average of 30 minutes to be seated. I've always been pleased with the food, service, and price. The resturant is located in the applewood village which contains 2 resturants, a candy shop, wine shop, bake and ice cream shop and a wonderful store for buying their products. It contains all of their products, applebutter, jams, preserves, relishes, etc.Everything we have purchased has been a winner. Besides food items, there is a huge variety of crafts, dinner and glassware, etc. This is a good place to find the gift for the "one who has everything".Be sure to sample their wines and watch them make the fried apple pies.

Harvest FestivalBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Harvest Festival is held each year during the entire month of October. Decorations are themed around harvest/Halloween and Thanksgiving. Gospel music is spotlighted by various artists and groups, found within the park.Additionally, there are other genre of music such as the 50's, country, etc. Local artisans and craftsmans display their wares(for sale)in numerous booths. There Is a clothing store called "Dolly's Closet" and a little kids store as well.Of particular interest to us was the Refuge for injured raptors and eagles. It is one of a few located in the country. Don't miss it. Many choices for food and drink. Prices are very reasonable. Suggest you get a 2 day pass as there is lot to see and do.
