A September 2002 trip to Fife by monkeys

We were in Scotland for one week and got a taste of what the Scotish heritage and culture is like.

Glamis Castle - Queen Mums vacation home. It was absolutlely gorgeous and fully furnished. Sterling Castle was nice as well, but Glamis was better.

We also went to a local distillery and saw the making and producing of whiskey. It was quite interesting.

St. Andrews was quite a sight. On Sundays the course is closed off to players and people can walk around it or let their dogs run wild.

William Wallace monument is a must. You get to drive through braveheart country and see where it all began.

Quick Tips:

If you don't try any other scottish fare - hagis is a must. Not because it is fabulous, but just to say that you tried it. It tasted a lot better before I found a recipe with the ingredients.

Best Way To Get Around:

We did tours that our resort recommended. It was far safer than driving. There were many US citizens getting into car accidents and we felt it was safer to not drive.

Hotel | "Kilconquhar Estate and Country Club"

At first sight, we thought we were stuck out in the middle of nowhere. You are, but it was very nice and relaxing to be away from any major city. We had a 4 bedroom 3 bath guest house with a full kitchen and a sauna in one of the bathrooms. There was a castle down the road that had apartments/rooms in it as well. It was nice to wake up in the morning to the clip clop of horses' hooves on the road. The resort itself offered horse back riding and a putting green. There was indoor ppol a very tiny gym - which only had 1 treadmill and a bike. There was a game room for the children with videogames and a pool table. There was one restaurant on the estate and the food was decent. We had a better time venturing out for dinner. The staff were delightful. They helped us tremendously with arranging tours and car service to the airport. The tour guide himself was fabulous. Since this was our only means of transportation - we were very happy to have such a respectful and knowledgeable person to lead us.

Restaurant | "Kilconquhar Inn"

The restsaurant is a quant little pub that has a restaurant in the back. The dining room is small, but very cozy. The room itself was decorated very tastefully and the wait staff were very accomodating. The food was divine. The soups and main courses were delicious. They use fresh vegetables and fish. They offer local food at affordable prices. The beef pie was divine. It was made with potatoes and beef in a gravy with a pastry top. The beef melted in my mouth. We walked to this restaurant from the resort which was nice to see the countryside and to interact with the locals that happened to cross our path.
