The laid-back town of Eugene, OR

Overview

Quote:
Ride along the Willamette river on the trails through Alton Baker park, visit 5th street market, an outside mall with unique shops, stroll through the University of Oregon campus and visit Deady Hall (where the Animal House was filmed), and my favorite - enjoy a sunny Saturday at the Saturday Public Market with great food, live music, and local crafts.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

The whole town is relatively flat, so this is an extremely bike-friendly town. If you have a bike, use it, or you can walk and use the public buses that run often. If you plan on going outside of Eugene, then a car is best to get you to the coast, some great hikes, and hot springs.

This is a small little place that was part of an old railroad station. It has some fabulous vegetarian dishes. The portabello mushrooms are excellent. The wait staff is friendly and the owner makes you feel right at home. It is a fairly small place, so I recommend reservations if your group is large.

You could spend the whole day getting lost in the big armchairs and great microbeers in this place. It has a warm atmosphere and good food, though the beer is definitely a reason to stop. But be careful to listen to your waiter - they aren't kidding when they point out the beers with especially high alcohol content!

I have been to the 19th st. McMenamins, but I prefer the one on High because of the better atmosphere, although smaller. It's in a small white house with flowers lining the outside porch. There is a tiny bar that can get crowded at night, and a few rooms with booths and tables. In the main room they have a fireplace that is going on cold nights. Great American food and great beer for a good price. One of my favorites!
