Birthday in Redondo

A July 2002 trip to Redondo Beach by grampy

Redondo Beach is suburb of Los Angeles and once there you can forget about the metropolis city. Stay at the Portofino Hotel and Yacht Club, right on the Marina/Ocean. Great accomadations and view!

The hotel is in an excellant location and for a long weekend get-away a car is not even needed. We took a cab to the hotel and they have bikes for use, and we were able to go anywhere we wanted to on foot or bike. There is a pier nearby with good local food and "touristy shops".

Walk along the beach or ride the bikes up the board walk for miles from Redondo Beach north and people watch. Fishing trips are offered if you enjoy deep sea fishing. A very relaxing four day weekend!

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

As stated above: taxi from the airport is available for about . Then utilize the bicycles and walking.

Restaurant | "Kincaids"

Kincaids is on the pier at Redondo Beach overlooking the ocean. Make reservations for around sundown and request a window view - what else can I say!

They have a wide variety of steak/seafood selections that are all very appealing. I had their clam chowder {excellent} and a special fish entree of the night, which was a salmon in philo crust - exquisite!! Since it was my birthday there was complimentary creme brulee!!

A perfect evening!

Attraction | "Board walk from Redondo Beach to Manhattan Beach"

A great bike ride from Redondo Beach along the board walk thru Hermosa Beach and up to Manhattan Beach. Take you time and watch the pedestrians. You can stop as needed and get a drink or eats at multiple eating establishments along the way. The weather is always great in California so put on your suit and take along a shirt to cover up with if you go into the shops along the way or get cool as the sun goes down. Of course, wear your sun screen!
