Overview

For someone visiting New York and wanting to get the stay off to an exciting start then staying at either the Royalton or the Mercer will do that. I know they are at the high end of the range but if you can stretch the budget then go for either of these - or both. From the moment you enter the lobby you will be transformed into a different place. The locations of both are sensational; the rooms just ooze New York, New York. They are fun places to stay. You will not be presented with tourists on a package tour; you will be pampered (and you will pay for it). Go on try one; you won't be let down.Quick Tips: Book early for the Mercer and Royalton, if you wish to eat at Mercers Kitchen then boo...Read More

I have stayed here now 6 or 7 times and it never disappoints me. Coming from the other side of the world and checking into the Royalton gives you the instant New York experience. From the fantastic bar running the length of the lobby all the way to the very modern rooms. Be aware that some of the rooms are smallish (although perhaps not by New York standards). Wow, stayed here on my last 2 visits and it is some hotel! It is pricey but for me worth it for the location and the room style. I recommend this one highly. The room size is very good; data line for laptop; functional but small bathroom (no bath); great lobby area with some very interesting books on the wall (like a library wall); and, of course, the dining room is Mercer's Kitchen. Room service was flexible and quick. Staff helpful and friendly (or was that just my Australian accent making them smile??).

Very average hotel, full of discount tour parties. Main dining room was a disgrace; room was like sleeping in shoe box. This is a budget hotel.
