Overview

Quote:
We love to go to the public park in Staunton and just walk around and hang out. There is usually a little league ball game going on; or you can just visit with the ducks. The downtown area is charming with many small shops; the train station has good restaurants, and you can watch the trains come and go from their windows.

Quick Tips:

Just a short drive over to Waynesville where you can pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway or Skyline Drive. Take a drive through the countryside; enjoy the rural areas. Many old Victorian style homes in the downtown area. Beautiful churches. Enjoy a Sunday sermon.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walk the downtown area; drive to the rural countryside.

This restaurant is at the train station. It is not a quiet place, but it has good food. Their is a beautiful old bar there; it is somewhat rustic in nature with hardwood floors and beamed ceilings inside what once was the train depot. Good selection of food; something for everyone.

This is an old fashioned drive-in restaurant with speaker phones and all. Oldies on the jutebox; great hamburgers and shakes. They have an old car show here a few times a year. Great fun.

Good home cooking. Great for breakfast or anytime. Home baked cookies, brownies, pies, etc. There's a frozen food case where they sell their entrees for take home. Rowe's is a meatloaf and mashed potatoes sort of place.

Story/Tip

Quote:
We travel to Staunton often. Great restaurants, nice places for just walking and enjoying the old town atmosphere. The college of Mary Washington has a beautiful campus. There is a Shakespeare theatre in the downtown area. The public park is the central gathering area for events on major holidays. If you can catch a function, it is a real family treat. If not, it is just a good place to hang out. Large, with lots of trees, playgrounds, picnic areas. There is also a golf course at the park. The mountains are nearby; pack a picnic lunch and go up on the parkway for lunch. Enjoy the view from above. Drive up at night and catch the city lights. Hike one of the many trails. Wonderful!!!
