Quote: La Mission is located on the free-road approximately 59 Kilometers south of San Diego/Mexico border. It is an ideal location for those who want to stay between Rosarito and Ensenada--both are reachable within 30 min.
Right in the heart of the K58 campground is a beach hut type of bar and restaurant that can be happenin' and there's also a place right next to the LA Mission Hotel that's all surfed out looking and they serve up food and beer (best for your last late night grub).
Surf straight out in front of the hotel (or at least float on one of the washed up huge pieces of styrofoam). Have a great big bonfire on the beach and light off as many fireworks as you want while listening to your favorite music. The La Mission valley is beautiful and there is an awesome roadside stand that has anything you need: Cerveza, snacks, detergent, fan-belts and even Emus.
You have to experience this place. Many a time I have extended my Baja trip an extra day after a relaxing several hour stop here.
Eat plenty! Tacos (either carne asada or pescado) are tasty and cheap, but the tortas are the absolute best and the most filling. I eat an average of 5 tortas per day - I'm not joking. Do not eat eggs whatsoever in Mexico - again, I'm not joking.
Travel to Purto Nuevo and check out the restaurants and shops and definitely stop at Calafia Resort to check out the view and have a beer. Wheather you stay in the area or not, it is definitely worth checking out the hotel-beach area and meet Rosalinda, the hotel receptionist/manager. She is una bella chica!
