The Bahamas Experience

An August 2002 trip to Freeport by Crimefighter

Freeport, Bahamas is great to visit and relax.

  • 5 reviews
The best thing to do is to go and relax by all the beaches. Riding the scooters is also a fun thing to do.

Quick Tips:

In order to enjoy what the natives do and eat, go to the downtown section and to West End. The conch salad is the best at the Chicken Nest on the West End.

Best Way To Get Around:

I would suggest renting a car from the resort, which is much cheaper than renting a car at the airport.

Remember, cars drive on the left side of the road!

The accomodations were comfortable. The building was old, but the furnishings were new. The Air Conditioner did not work properly for the first day. The door to the laundry room did not work. The lights did not work correctly. Over-all it was not bad for a huge place with 3 bedrooms. The pool and hot tub located on the premises were quite accomodating.

Best Things Nearby:
The best things nearby were the International Bazzar, Beaches and Port Lucaya Market Place.

Best Things About the Resort:
The timeshare was comfortable and the workers were very accomodating. The two pools were great along with the hot tub. The Yatch Club is located near the International Bazzar and the Port Lucaya Marketplace. You could ride the bus or use the taxi service which is not reliable. The best way to get around is to rent a car at the resort.

Resort Experience:
The trip was great to relax and unwind. The beaches nearby were very clean and the water was clear and clean. Overall I enjoyed Freeport, Bahamas.

Dine where the natives dine in order to get the real Bahamanian food. Make sure you order the fish which was served with a healthy portion of peas and rice and vegetables. The waitress who served our meal was very friendly. The food was tasty and you get a healthy portion. Be prepared to pay .50 cents extra if you use traveler's checks.

The make-shift resturant at the Ocean Reef Yacht Club was quite good. With a BBQ grill, the cook could make anything right there for you. This is located near the pool and hot tub. The other such restaurant on-site is located by the second pool and is somewhat the same configuration. The food we enjoyed was tasty and inexpensive.
