A day in Granada

Overview

Quote:
The Alhambra is the highlight of Granada. Would strongly recommend that you go and secondly that you get a guided tour to allow you to pick up on the history and significance of some of the sights

Quick Tips:

Granada is a nice city to walk around and see what you may find. See my attached journals for more details on the Alhambra, our hotel, shopping and Terra Mitica

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking is best unless distance precludes it. Taxis are available.

Hotel Saray

Hotel | "Saray"

Quote:
Rooms and service were very nice. It is a four star hotel and is comparable to four stars in north america. The desk staff speaks some English. Our group meals were good. (Dinner and breakfast)

Alhambra Palace and Fortress Complex

Attraction | "The Alhambra"

Quote:
The Alhambra is huge. It was originally a Moorish palace. The Moors controlled Spain from about the 4th to 11th century. The rooms have lavish painted designs, there are courtyards with fountains. Several unique rooms, the Harem room, the Sultana's room, Washington Irving room (he wrote 'Tales of the Alhambra' here. Charles the V added on to the palace. Christopher Columbus was presented to Isabella here after he went to the new world. There are also several acres of gardens here attached to the palace. Be prepared for a fairly heavy two to three hours of walking if you wish to see it all. There is a place to rest, have a drink etc. between the palace and the gardens

Corte Inglés

Attraction | "El Corte Ingles"

Quote:
El Corte Ingles is like large North American department stores. Obviously it has a large section with Spanish souveniers. They are a chain and appear in most large Spanish cities, sometimes two stores in a city. We bought things like coasters with spanish pictures.

Terra Mitica

Attraction

Quote:
Terra Mitica is or soon will be a huge theme park with a historic theme including gladiators, etc. It was being built when we were there. It is not really in Granada, but is probably about a two hour drive from there. IT MAY NOT BE OPEN YET. When it opens they expect to handle about 16000 people per day.
