Mali - what an exceptional country

Overview

the markets were my favorites: we went there to shop for our group and I loved the sounds, the smell, the colors and the way, they piled up their fruit and vegetables! And how much fun did we have bargaining!!!

Quick Tips:

* the adobe architecture, especially the mosque in Djenné * the Dogon Country * the Sahara desert * the markets in Mopti *

Best Way To Get Around:

we had our own vehicle, which I believe, was a good thing! I wouldn't know about public transportation and I don't know about the customs as far as taxis are concerned.

The Dogon Country

The Dogon country is a unique place, indeed: the fallaise is a countryside, where there is a sudden drop of about 200 yards downward. The inhabitants of the Dogon country could survive this way, because by building their villages directly to the rocks, the conquerers, standing on top of the hill, could not see the settlements right underneath and thus retreated without any battles!

Djenné

Djenné is famous especially for its adobe architecture. The mosque is so fascinating, but the market, that we were experiencing, was much more interesting and fascinating than anything else!!!
