Houston......Space City, Texas

Overview

Quote:
Cultural attractions, college and professional sports, over 8,000 food establishments, state of the art health care

Quick Tips:

It's always summer in Houston! We wear our sunglasses all year. Although the summer days are hot, many days over 100 degrees, the winters are so mild that we don't usually notice them!

Best Way To Get Around:

Houston covers a large area, so walking is not the most feasible way to get around. Public transportation, rental cars, and personal cars are the most used transportation in Houston.

TL&C serves up Texas sized portions in an old west atmosphere. My favorite is the Smoked Sirloin, tender medallions of sirloin rolled in cracked pepper and smoked to perfection. Great with baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter sauce or garlic mashed potatoes. I've never been able to work in dessert, so I can't comment on those!
The decor is western chic...brightly colored boots above the bar, peanuts in pails and you drop the shells on the floor, branding iron collection.

'The closest thing to Space on Earth' is their slogan, and it's true. Very realistic programs designed to be intelligent fun for the whole family.

Visit the Shuttle Cockpit, take a 'walk' on the Moon, see what the astronauts see from Space!

The Menil Collection is a unique museum environment located in the Montrose area. The Menil Collection is the centerpiece of a neighborhood featuring satellite gallery spaces and related cultural institutions in a parklike setting. John and Dominique Menil have put together a collection that is considered to be one of the most important privately assembled collections in the twentieth century, with over 15,000 pieces. Dominique Menil intended this museum/gallery to be one where people could sit and contemplate the art and it is true to her vision. Only portions of the collection are shown at a time to enable the visitor to fully appreciate the art. Collections are rotated, so that on...Read More

Story/Tip

Houston is located on the coastal prairies of Southeast Texas, and is home to a diverse set of industries and cultures. Being 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, the climate is moderate and ideally suited for year round activities. Often referred to as 'The Bayou City,' the landscape and climate have more in common with neighboring southern Louisiana than the arid western regions people usually associate with the state of Texas. Although the terrain may differ, the people in the City of Houston are 100 percent Texan in their approach to life and economic development! Founded in 1836 by the Allen brothers (Augustus C. and John K.) Houston is currently the seat of Harris County, Texas. Present day...Read More
