On the first day we went for a walk in the jungle where we saw many medicinal plants. The guide was very informative. He showed us a plant for every sickness such as: Stomach aches, Cancers, Period Pains, Headaches, etc. In the night we went with a small boat down the river to see Caimans. We saw about 20 of them. With us there was a boy, who is the son of the owner of the lodge, and he tried to catch a Caiman. On the second day, we went further down the river and we stopped on the monkey island. In the afternoon we went fishing in the river, and we went for another walk in the jungle. In the morning we went to the Clay lick where a large number of parakeets came to eat the clay.

Quick Tips:

3 days are not enough. You need at least a week, as you can go to see the gold miners, the Fitzcaraldo ship and many other things.

Best Way To Get Around:

The quickest way to go is by plane. From Cuzco is just 30 minutes and From Lima is 1 hour. From Cuzco, one can go by a truck, a long way and very rough, but they say that the scenes are fantastic

Restaurant

Dining at the Corto Maltes lodge is Superb. The breakfast is good with fruit salads, eggs, bread, juices etc. The lunch is always different with many tasty sauces. On the first day, we had chicken breast with Papaya sauce. When we had a day excursion, the cook gave us packed lunch which also was good. Sandwiches with eggs, and guacamole paste. yam yam!!!!

Attraction

Monkey Island
On the second day we went to Monkey island. The guide named John started to shout and monkeys were coming from all over. This island is the only place where three types of monkeys live together. We were giving them bananas. We were told by John that one of the monkeys is their leader, in fact when I was giving bananas to a small monkey, and it got afraid, this particular monkey came to the rescue.

Attraction

Fishing Lake
After a one a half hour walk deep into the jungle, John our guide gave us the chance to swim in the River. After we went on a small boat out in the lake and he gave us three fishing rods to fish with. The fishing rod is just a stick with a hook stitched on top of it. We stuck raw meat on the hook and managed to catch some fish. Two of us snagged piranhas and the guide and I caught a type of lake fish called Liza which is good for eating. I didn't realize that, and threw in back in the water. In the evening the Liza that John caught was given to a small boy for dinner.
