Quote: Sure, it sounds like a dress shoe, but Umbrian Spoleto is one of the most beautiful, overlooked Italian cities.

Spoleto: High-Hilled City Best of IgoUgo

Overview

Quote:
The former capital of an influencial Lombard duchy, Spoleto is now renowned for its annual International Arts Festival; but the city, teeming with musicians and cultural- savvy travelers during early July, settles back into its pre-festival self soon after. This is the Spoleto I called home for four weeks, the Spoleto I love. There is so much to extoll: the streets, the food, the light, the gradual slope upwards to the Rocca dei Papi, which offers an excellent view of the Ponte delle Torri and the tree-lined hills. The castle is not to be missed. Nothing is to be missed.
