Addicted to NYC

An April 2002 trip to New York by mdlynch

I LOVE New York! Not just a catchy expression for me, I enjoy visiting NYC so much that I might have to retire here someday!

Overview

At The Manhattan Club, you are central to everything. North, South, East or West, you'll never run out of things to do. Find Balto in Central Park, Go to the Bronx Zoo, Eat at the Jeckyl & Hyde on 6th, Get a big, sloppy Gyro at GYRO II near Madison Square Garden, ride the Roosevelt Island Tram just for the heck of it, shop at Macy's, go to the Battery Park TKTS Booth and you might score front row tickets to Proof like we did!, watch weirdos (and normal people too), get a pizza from Ray's and another from Two-Boots, Walk through Grand Central at rush hour, Plan to spend a few days getting lost in the Natural History Museum....I could go on and on.....

Quick Tips:

Go for one week and do the "tourist" stuff. Go see all the statues and buildings, etc. Then, go back and live like a local for a week. Go to restaurants you've never heard of before, enjoy a street festival, sit in a public space and people watch.

Best Way To Get Around:

Although a cab ride from South Central Park to the Battery at rush hour down the West Side Highway is the best amusement-park ride I've ever been on, I recommend the Subway and Buses. Take the subway if you know exactly where you want to go and get there quickly. Take the Bus if you want to spot something and just get off and do/see it. Buy the 7 day unlimited Bus/Subway Pass and you'll get a great deal for your money.

Best Things Nearby:
The fantastic, wonderful, thriving city of NY. 2 blocks South of Central Park, just a short walk from Times Square and everything else I love about NYC.

Best Things About the Resort:
Location. Size (considering this is Manhattan). The really friendly bell-staff, those guys are great!

Resort Experience:
The Manhattan Club makes me feel like I own a piece of NY (actually we own 3 weeks there). The day my husband and I walked in for the "tour", we said "Oh, we can never afford this!" but we were wrong. We love going to Manhattan and we always make a point to try new restaurants when we are there, instead of going to the old standbys. I will never, ever go to a chain/franchise restaurant in Manhattan. I can go to Mickey D's or Friday's or Olive Garden back home. Who would go to Olive Garden in Mahattan when you have some of best Italian food on the planet in Little Italy? I love the fact that there is maid/housekeeping service every day. The towels are fluffy and the bathroom is all marble. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is very convenient to have a partial-kitchen back at the room, when you bring back leftovers to eat for a midnight snack. There is a supermarket one block over and a full-service bank around the block. This is a great place to vacation! I will never run out of things to do!

Attraction

Like being on a big barge with a bunch of commuters, since that is most of who is on there. Step outside and enjoy the view as you pass the Statue of Liberty.

This is a great little zoo right inside Central Park. Nice and Clean, a great little diversion while you're wandering about the city. The exhibits are well kept and it wasn't crowded.

Macy'sBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Macy's is the place to shop in NYC. Forget the pricy shops on 5th. Go there to browse and Macy's to buy. I have a mall-Macy's near home, but it is nothing like NYC. The flower show in the spring it out of this world - nothing else anywhere quite like it. Lots of bargains for great stuff on the clearance racks. Great Macy Woman area for plus size ladies, but nothing for the big and tall man. Always grab a coupon from somewhere so you can get your free gift at the visitor center. The size of this place is amazing! You could easily spend a day just a Macy's!
