Hot Fun in the Sun in Puerto Vallarta

An April 2002 trip to Puerto Vallarta by KathyinLA

Quote: This April our family went on a wonderful vacation to Puerto Vallarta. We had a fantastic time bargaining with locals, eating international cuisine, snorkeling in the warm turquoise waters of the Pacific, and just relaxing around the pool.

Overview

The excursion to Las Caletas was probably our favorite part of the vacation. This was also the only time we went in the water since the water in Puerto Vallarta didn't look very inviting. On the contrary, the water in Las Caletas was warm and clear and great for snorkeling. While we were walking around town, we loved browsing through the local shops. There were many wonderful handmade objects like the shoes in the zapataria. The food in PV was delicious. We were expecting a lot of Mexican food, but in contrast we discovered an abundance of delectable international food. We stayed at the Mayan Palace Puerto Vallarta, and we were very thrilled with the resort. In the center of the resort was an ...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Right across the street was a wonderful waterpark. My son spent a whole afternoon here. The waterpark consists of 3 waterslides, a lazy river, and a kiddy playground.Best Things About the Resort:The resort had an immense pool which my son loved. Going to the pool was on our daily routine. Although the restaurant on the premises was expensive, it was very convenient. On days when we had an early excursion, we would go down to the restaraunt and have a quick and enjoyable meal.Resort Experience:The Mayan Palace Puerto Vallarta was one of the nicest resorts we have been to. The units were nice and roomy. Our two bedroom unit consisted of ...Read More

Trio Restaurante

Restaurant | "Trio"

Trio is a great upscale continental restaurant conveniently located a few blocks north of the Rio Caule and east of the Malecon. Paella is a tradition in Puerto Vallarta steming from Spanish roots. The locals informed us that many families in Puerto Vallarta have their own coveted paella recipes that are featured at the Sunday family gathering. Trio's chefs continue this tradition. Their version of paella is special and memorable, a perfect blend of saffron, fish, broth, and rice ... que sabrosa! When my son looked at the menu he said, "What am I going to eat?" Finally, he decided to order spinach ravioli. To my surprise, he ate all of it. However, most children will not find their comfort ...Read More

Archie's Wok

Restaurant

Quote:
We weren't expecting good Asian food in Mexico, but we loved Archie's Wok. What a refreshing change! Archie's has an eclectic menu featuring a blend of cuisines from China, Thailand, India, Singapore, and the Philippines. Archie's is also vegetarian and kid friendly! Our favorite dish was the curry chicken. To top that off, the atmosphere is relaxed and the service amicable, yet attentive. Sit in the peaceful interior garden. As you're enjoying your Tsingtao beer, have your kids decorate an Asian design. These little masterpieces of little visitors from throughout the world grace the walls of and menu covers of the restaurant. The restaurant comes with a history too. A...Read More
