If there's one thing that Ireland is justifiably famous for, it's the pubs. Searching out the finest Guinness while soaking up the history and friendly atmosphere is the finest way of spending a long afternoon in Dublin.

Dublin Pub Tour

Overview

There are not many places in the world where you can truly find the contents of your imagination. You've heard the stories and seen the pictures a thousand times, and then when you finally walk into these great pubs in Dublin City, it's just as you always imagined. Then when the band strikes up, or the massive plate of smoked salmon is brought to the table, you'll realise that all it will take is just one more pint of Guinness and you may never go home.

Quick Tips:

Don't be afraid to go into any of the pubs in the main streets of Dublin. Try the literary pub crawl for some culture combined with a good introduction to real Irish Pub Culture.

For music, you still can't beat O'Donoghues - and the back bar is a good place for a quiet pint away from the crowd.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walk - it may be raining, but you'll appreciate the fine food and drink even more.

Rashers Geraghty

Restaurant

Rashers Geraghty

A downstairs bar, that doesn't look too impressive with a large, wooden pig outside. Inside, it's pub-like in style with a fairly limited menu, but EVERYTHING on the menu is good. Sourced mainly from local ingredients and with traditional dishes, you'll get a massive plateful and at a very good price. Don't order too much - you can always order more...

Kehoes

This is a pub to visit on a quiet afternoon. It's got a completely unspoilt interior and very relaxing atmosphere. You can sit by the door and watch the world go by or read the newspaper, but the best thing is just to sit and contemplate the most unspoilt pub in Dublin and to sip your pint in respect.

The Norseman

Temple Bar is the busiest nightlife area in Dublin, and the Norseman is right in the middle of it all. There may be a live band on, but if not, there's plenty else to listen to and watch. Just see the locals and the tourists - you'll have to try hard not to make friends here with the drink flowing and the hum of conversation helping it go down a treat.

Doheny Nesbitt's

My brother says that this is the finest pub and the finest pint of Guinness in Dublin.

The front bar is very historic, unchanged with small stalls set at the bar for private drinking; only the barman can get near you. The back has now been opened out so if you're going with a big group, you can still get the benefit of this classic pub.

O' Donoghues

Activity

O' Donoghues

Renowned for the music and the Guinness. O'Donoghues was the regular Dublin hideout of 'The Dubliners' and many other well known Irish musicians.

Weekend evenings can get really packed here but the drink never stops flowing and the music can be brilliant in this traditional setting.
