Vacation at Negril, Jamaica

A June 2002 trip to Negril by Cynthia_R

They say Negril is known for its 7 miles of sandy white beaches. It is absolutely true!

Rick's cafe, jet skiing, dancing, drinking, eating, beach, para-sailing, glass bottom boats, paddle-boats, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville.

Quick Tips:

1) Choose an all inclusive hotel if you can, so you don't need to worry about where to dine. 2) Bring plenty of bug repellent and hydrocortisone (for the itching).

Best Way To Get Around:

Taxis, but be prepared for the crazy driving.

Hotel | "Hotel Riu Tropical Bay"

The hotel is all-inclusive. It includes all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner and even snacks up to midnight), and some beach activities. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the food was delicious. Service was excellent and the hotel staff is very, very friendly. The hotel even has a small computer room where you can access the internet and send e-mails for a fee. The fee is very reasonable, example: $3 US Dollars for 10 mins. The only problem with this hotel is that it has somewhat of a "bug" problem. I did see some hotel staff "exterminating" some of the rooms. But overall the hotel is really nice.

Restaurant

It was a fun place; the equivalent of let's say a "Houlihan's" in NYC. They have American and Jamaican food. There are two locations, one in Negril, the other in Montego Bay. The one in Montego Bay is bigger and has a big slide that leads to the ocean!! Nice music is playing and there is a wide variety of alcoholic drinks.

Attraction

If you stay at any of the major hotels near the beach, you can walk along the different beaches of each hotel. The beaches are absolutely clean and have beach chairs, beach tables, etc. The water is warm and blue...beautiful!
