A day in DenverBest of IgoUgo

Overview

Denver seemed more European to me than many other cities in the USA. The first impression of the city is the very impressing skyline. In my opinion Denver has San Francisco have the most impressing Sky Lines in the western part of the USA. The city is very clean and frindly. The main street of Denver is the 16th street where a tram takes you from one end to the other for free. The 16th street is definately the best starting point for the tourist visiting Denver for the first time. There are a lot of different things to do in Denver: Dining and night life: There seems to be many different dining options both up scale and budget options. We decided to try The Cheesecake Factory (see Dining entry) which definately can be recommended. The city seems to have a lively buzz and a number of different bars to enjoy the nightlife. Art and culture: Again Denver offers a lot of possilities like art callaries and museums such as: Colorado History Museum - Denver Art Museum Denver Botanic Gardens - to name a few. Shopping: Along 16th street find the main stream shops

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Denver is a good city to walk in. The free tram going up and down 16th street is another great option.

Hotel Monaco Denver - A Kimpton HotelBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Hotel Monaco"

Location:
The Monaco hotel is situated in downtown Denver close to 16th street which is where you want to be as a tourist eager to explore Denver's downtown.

Lobby and front desk:
The hotel is build in an old railway exchange building from 1917. The lobby also looks historic. The choice of colours and furniture is unique with many different and strong colours in stripes along with other patterns. It may sound confusing but it works very well in the Monaco Hotel. The check-in service was kind and charming making you feel welcome at the hotel.

The rooms:
We were very impressed with our double room. Alone, the size of the room was very impressive when you consider that the cost of space is higher in a city like Denver. The rooms consists of a quite long hall of 3-4 meters with a bathroom to the right and an oversize wardrobe closet to the left. The rooms have a more modern feel than the lobby but they have kept the strong colours and stripes which again works very well. It seemed to us that every room had a slight twist in terms of colour and design - a unique feature. Another unique feature was that the rooms came with a gold fish.

Room facilities:
The rooms were equiped with a fax machine, high speed internet access, and the possibility to play Nintendo games along with a selection of the newest movies.

Needless to say the rooms were very clean and nice.

Between 5pm-6pm you could enjoy free wine in the lobby. It seems that you were welcome to drink as much as you would like, however 2 glasses were more than enough as a predinner drink.

Facilities:
The hotel has meeting facilities if needed. The hotel also has an Italian restaurant called Panzano. It looked very nice but we didn't try it.

The Monaco hotel in Denver has thought about many small details and the hotel comes very close to perfection. I couldn't find anything to complain about.

I have never been as impressed with a hotel on this price range. I can't recommend it enough if you are going to Denver.

Cheesecake FactoryBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The Cheesecake Factory despite the name serves a lot of different selections of salads, chicken, stake, hamburgers, fish, etc for lunch and dinner.

The Cheesecake Factory in Denver was very popular and since they don't take reservations we had to wait more than an hour before we had a table.

We could understand why the place was so popular. The food was excellent and the service was very professional. I only regret that there are no Cheesecake Factory restaurants in Europe.

My wife and I both deceided to have chicken prepared in Chinese style however in different ways. We were both overly impressed with the quality of the food compared to the price.

Our entre was so large that we had no room for any cheese cake even though they looked delicious.
