Overview

Quote:
Visit Schlitterbaun water park (3 separate parks w/ shuttle between), Natural Bridge Caverns, Gruen (the Grist Mill has a GREAT restaurant) and visit Gruen's dance hall where scenes from "Michael" with John Travolta were filmed. Try the Blue Moon Cafe on the resort's restaurant list (eclectic cuisine; good prices!) When doing San Antonio, take the River Walk boat ride FIRST to orient what you want to visit. Take the time to shuttle to the "needle" (tower?) and ride to the top. The fountains around the needle/convention center are a great place to rest and cool off.Quick Tips: Best Way To Get Around: If you stay at Silverleaf's resort, you'll definitely need a car since it's "20 mi...Read More

Blue Moon Cafe

Small, eclectic cafe with friendly staff. Eavesdropping on conversations indicate locals visit often. A chef delivers wonderful cuisine and imaginative, flavorful desserts. The menu doesn't have kid meals, but they down-size the options to accomodate and are very willing.

The tour (relatively inexpensive) is about 50 minutes long down 220 some feet into the earth. Beautiful columns and caverns. Knowledgeable tour-guides. Highly recommend for families with elementary age school kids. There's a wildlife park on the complex which we didn't visit but the resort staff said it's pretty neat - you drive thru and the animals supposedly come right up to the car (depending on the heat).

Lyndon B. Johnson Ranch

Attraction | "LBJ Ranch"

Quote:
Small museum loaded with historical information about Lyndon B. Johnson and his political career. LBJ ranch a short drive away offers a bus tour (relatively expensive for the value). There is only 1 homestead you are allowed to visit (relatively boring) and the tour guides narrates the rest of the tour. If you're looking for sitting, air-conditioned entertainment with historical meaning, this is a good thing to do.

Schlitterbahn Water Park

Best Of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Schlitterbaun Water Park"

Quote:
Schlitterbaun is comprised of 3 seperate parks (with a free shuttle to get to/from all three with the one entry fee). The original park uses the Guadalupe river as it's water source so be prepared to be in "river water". The original rides there are nice and long (like 20 minutes) and use standard large tire-tubes - very fun! The other 2 parks are newer and use chlorinated, pool water. The lines are longer so hit those first. The park allows coolers/food/beverage to be brought in so you can make it a very affordable day. They also have "park dollars" for sale that you pay for and then attach as a wristband so you don't have money jingling around in your pockets and lose all day long! Two parks h...Read More
