Eating my way through Tampa

A January 2000 trip to Tampa by Carmen Sandiego

I have spent many weeks off and on in Tampa over the last 2 years for business. We usually found some nice places to spend our evenings - feeding our faces:)

I know Tampa has at least one major amusement park, but I never stayed over a weekend to go to it.

Tapas at Ceviche with friends, the show at Colombia, lunch at Pipos (so much food for so little ), the flourless chocolate cake at Le Bourdeaux...

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

We always had a rental car there and that worked best for us. I think the public transportation is okay as well.

Restaurant | "Le Bordeaux"

This cozy little French restaurant in the exclusive area of Tampa holds many secrets. The limited selection is enough - everything was delicious! My coworker and I both had dessert as well. I had the creme brulee and she chose the flourless chocolate cake. We ended up sharing, but her choice was clearly the winner. I don't even eat chocolate and I'm still raving about it years later...

I wouldn't call it family-friendly, but it is a must visit.

This is an institution in Tampa in Ybor City. There are typical Spanish dance shows on different days. The food is very good. Of course the paella takes a long time, but it is well worth the wait for this melange of seafood, rice, chicken, and sausage.

Pipo's RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Pipo's"

Pipo's is the place to be for local Cuban food! They have more than one location, I believe. This one is like a cafeteria, with a line for hot food and a line for Cuban sandwiches. The servings can easily feed 2-3 people - and that's the lunch portion! The rice and beans and plantains are delicious...everything was. I had great leftovers for days afterwards.

Ceviche Bar & RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Ceviche"

This is a great location for groups! A team of about 15 of us went to the place and it was great. The selection was excellent and the staff recommended several items that had to be sampled. Their picks were right on target. The drinks were flowing and favorites were quickly selected and re-ordered. I would defintely go back again. I think smaller groups would enjoy as well.

This Greek restaurant is a little out of the way from the regular Tampa haunts, but it's worth the drive to Tarpon Springs. The location is right on the water, so the seafood is definitely fresh. Traditional Greek dishes are combined with other eclectic fare in delectable fashion. My favorite was the baklava - can you tell I have a sweet tooth? It was delicious!!

Restaurant | "Bernini's"

This Italian restaurant is in the heart of Ybor City in Tampa - great location. The setting is romantic and the food is very good. The waiters recommend the best wine to go with your meal and work with any menu adjustments very well.
