My first official tea was at the Empress Hotel. It was lovely - a little pricey, but good. We went on a tour of Ann Hatheway's house (Shakespeare's wife). That was very cool! Learned about the origins of many current sayings like cold shoulder, wake, upper crust, etc. The Butchart Gardens are spectacular...makes you want to acquire a green thumb. Even if you're not much of a flower person, there are rock gardens and lovely bridges with streams flowing throughout. This hotel has four diamonds from AAA and it's well deserved. Good location near the harbour. Luxurious is the first word that comes to mind. There was a fireplace in the cozy room. The rooms themselves are not big, but there is so much good stuff ideally placed in there - it's amazing! Lavish marble bathrooms have walk-in glass showers and separate deep tubs for the ultimate relaxation.
