Sea World is worth the admission price, whether you're young or old, and the Behind the Scenes tour is well worth the extra (when we went) to experience some real learning. Get there when the gates open to sign up for this limited opportunity. You won't be sorry. Fiesta Texas is an amusement park that is VERY HOT most of the time, has some good rides, and very good shows. San Antonio and its famous River Walk must be on your list of things to do. Mexican Food on the River Walk is a definite, La Villata for a sense of the Old Mexican market, a great zoo and botanical gardens, and of course the Alamo...all make for a varied itinerary. The Texas Hill Country allows you to be as active or as inactive as you wish! Enjoy the breeze! This is my backyard!

Quick Tips:

Before you go to the Alamo, catch one of the few IMAX presentations on what happened at the Alamo...it will be very fresh in your mind when you actually tour the missions. Definitely worth the money.

The Hyatt Hill Country Resort is a pampered, relaxing getaway for couples....but NOT at Spring Break or in the Summer. This is when the families are there, so depending on what you want, and who you're bringing...know this!

Best Way To Get Around:

If you are staying outside of San Antonio, you will need a car. If you plan to stay just in San Antonio on the River Walk, you can take a cab from the airport, and then pretty much walk or cab everywhere else...within the city itself. If you want to do SeaWorld or Fiesta Texas, you'll need a car. Your hotel may offer transportation to some of these tourist spots. Ask.

Hyatt Hill Country Resort
The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio is located away from the hustle bustle of San Antonio, yet is very close to SeaWorld, Fiesta Texas, and about 45 minutes to San Antonio River Walk. The property is top-notch: we've stayed there many times, and will continue to return to this idyllic spot.

The American Southwest decor (I call it Texas Hill Country Chic) is found from the spacious main lobby and into the guest rooms. If you are there when it is chilly, the big fireplace is roaring in the lobby. It sits on 200 acres, with multiple pools, all connected by the 950-foot "Ramblin' River". Grab an innertube and enjoy the slow float around the property. Very relaxing! Drinks and food are served poolside, either at the restaurant, or brought to you by a server. Complimentary bikes, table tennis, basketball, volleyball are such a nice addition. The workout room is well-equipped, especially the attendant who will bring you a towel and/or water while on the treadmill! We enjoy the walking trails, which wind through some very quiet areas. They've recently put in a beautiful Spa, with its own small pool under the live oak trees. The landscaping is always top-notch here, and the service extremely accomodating. Consider upgrading to the Regency Club, for complimentary continental breakfast, and snacks and drinks in the evening. This is one of our favorite Hyatt properties!

Rio Rio Restaurant
Rio Rio is our favorite restaurant on the RiverWalk. The food is consistently good, and they have GREAT Margaritas, chips and salsa. We always ask for a table upstairs, outside by the railing, so we can overlook the River Walk - great for people-watching. The service is attentive, but remember that in San Antonio, no one is moving quickly - it's a relaxed location. During the week, they turn the lunch crowd as quickly as you'd like, but if you aren't working, and you want a leisurely pleasure lunch, they'll be happy to oblige! The Botana platter for two is a fun experience for your 1st visit. A selection of shrimp, beef and chicken, along with other specialities is served on a huge platter to share. Match that with the largest Margaritas you've ever seen, and expect a fun afternoon. Their regular Margaritas are very large, and are just under $10...but you probably won't want more than one...see photo. No visit to the River Walk should be without Mexican food, so give Rio Rio a try. You won't be disappointed!
