Much of what you came to see is out there where it's wet. You can scuba, snorkel, ride the Nautilus submarine down to 100 feet, or, if you're timid, you can ride a glass bottom boat. And, hey, that glass bottom boat isn't a bad deal. Trust us, we've done all the other methods also. The boat keeps your camera dry, and you're in shallow water where the light is good and colors are brilliant. Deeper in the Nautilus submarine, the light is blue and colors are subdued.
The glass bottom boat tour departs the Kona harbor, passing the Ahu'ena Heiau, built by King Kamehameha. That site isn't open for tour, but it's viewable from a beach stroll by the hotel grounds.
