At Memphis found a restaurant - MARLOWES - who came and picked us up at our hotel and had a great meal. Visited Gracelands, toured Beale Street called in BB Kings. Boarded boat- food brilliant, staff excellent, Big Band entertainment in main ballroom - very good duo in lounge bar. Visited Vicksburg, Natchez - where tornado ripped through town while we sheltered in shop. Called at Baton Rouge and on to New Orleans. What a fabulouis place - why is it not on your Ht Tips list. What a great place. There are six areas -- the courtyard restaurant, where we dined, and the restaurant bar. The food was excellent -- great steaks.

In the complex are other bars -- particularly the Piano Bar with two pianos and large mirrors above. A truly unique place with so much going on. There are often long queues to get into the piano bar -- but the wait is worth it.

The whole area resounds to the sound of music. Jackson Square has loads of street entertainment -- from massages to impromptu jazz sessions, as well as human statues.

Made our own way round Vicksburg -- fascinating old hardware and drug stores. Met an amazing character in the quayside gun store talking about hunting, shooting, and fishing.

Natchez -- as mentioned, experienced a tornado -- couldn't visit historic homes due to damage but did wander around in the afternoon when the weather cleared.

Baton Rouge -- took tour of Louisiana's Old State Capitol with its amazing stained-glass windows and dome. Then went on to the Rural Life Museum which recreates life on a 19th-century plantation.
