Quote: For history buffs and a history lesson for the kids, witness a reinactment of Washington's famous crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas Eve 1776. This is THE site where the pivotal battle in the Revolutionary War took place. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and historic.

Overview

Quote:
Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania is a small little village about 45 minutes via highway and the River Road from Philadelphia. It lies across the Delaware River from Trenton, New Jersey. Every year on Christmas Day, a reinactment of the famous crossing takes place with costumed volunteers playing the role of George Washington, the colonial troops, and the local volunteers and woodsmen. The Durham boats that are housed year round in the historic buildings at the Washington Crossing Memorial Park are brought out to river's edge and boarded after "Washington" speaks to the troops. They navigate the river to the New Jersey side of the Memorial Park, minus the horses and cannons that were also transpor...Read More

Within the small village of Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, next to the Memorial Park of the same name lies this charming historic Inn. It is advertised as one of the finest restaurants in Bucks County, PA. They serve lunch from 11:30 a.m., dinner from 5:00 p.m., and Sunday Brunch 10 to 2. Though the building itself is a historic colonial inn believed to be the site where George Washington had dinner before the historic crossing Christmas night 1776, the Washington Crossing is elegant and offers fireside seating, a piano bar, and even outdoor dining in pleasant weather among the gardens. The menu ranges from steaks, veal, lamb, and pork dishes, colonial pot pies, to multiple types of ...Read More

This is my kind of place. Goodnoe Family Restaurant has been a tradition since 1955 and their motto is, "Eat Dessert First." It is a Bucks County landmark known for country fresh quality and homemade ice creams and pies. It began as a dairy making home deliveries to the rural homesteads and then progressed into a dairy bar and ultimately a family restaurant. It still retains the central walkway for the waitresses where the 50's style soda shop tables fan out like spokes on a wheel from this central walkway. It is truly a throw-back to the 50's. It's also the place where the locals will meet and greet their neighbors from table to table while catching up on the town news during a hearty breakfast...Read More

Editor's Note: This property has closed. The first time I heard of Lavendar Hall was when my husband called me from there saying he was out to dinner with fellow workers. I was immediately suspect as to the evening's offerings when the place had such a provocative name. Not long after I got reassurance that it truly was a restaurant, and a fine one at that, we moved to the area where it is located. When I first laid eyes on it, I had no doubt at all about the origins for the name of this place. It sits on an isolated stretch of country road, paved and 2 lanes, about 1-2 miles northeast of Newtown, PA on the Washington Crossing Road, Rt. 532. It is a monstrously large stone house, very...Read More

The charming and small town of Newtown, PA is a refreshing glimpse into the past. It has a charm of its own, but especially takes on that old time holiday spirit come Christmas time. The Newtown Historic Association, which organizes the tours, is headquartered in Court Inn, one of the oldest buildings in the town, at the corner of Court Street and Centre Avenue in historic downtown Newtown. The inn itself is open for tours showcasing its beginnings as the town meeting place since 1733 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The second floor of the inn is a research center and contains collectibles dating back to William Penn's era. It is open to the public at no charge from 9:00 AM to ...Read More
