Kiawah Island is truly a planned community. There are single family homes as well as condos. There are so many condos though that we had to work hard to find our street at night when it was dark! There are breathtaking golf courses and a magnificent beach. Lagoons dot the area and yes, beware because there are gators in there. What is very apparent right from the beginning of your stat is the island doesn't have is an over abundance of commercialism. It is Hilton Head minus a zillion resorts and as many stip malls. It was perfect for breakfast and viewing the heron and egrets that inhabited the lagoon below.
