A June 1998 trip
to Kiawah Island by housefrau
Quote: My friend and I traveled to Kiawah Island to get together after not seeing each other in four years. What we found was we had really missed each other and a place where ecology and the environment came first and progress second.
We found the area beguiling especially as we meandered the copious bike paths that encircle the area. While riding, we stopped at wild life sanctuaries, watched the gators with their mouths wide open hoping for some prey to appear and laughed ourselves silly as we watched the pelicans dive bomb the ocean in search of fish. What head aches they must have had.
The beach was a short walk from our condo and we enjoyed the fact that while there were alot of people around, you just were not near anyone.
There are many gracious plantations to visit along the way with their formal gardens and magnificent homes. It will let your mind wander back to other times.
Count how many different species of nature you can see. We played a game to remember our ever growing list each day. Rent a bike to explore and see the Inn and shopping area on the island.
