I visited the United Nations for the first time. What an eye-opener! It's a lovely and educational tourist-friendly site.

Quick Tips:

Be sure to eat at least one Italian ice while in New York. My favorite is chocolate, closely followed by cherry.

Best Way To Get Around:

Public transportation is remarkably efficient in New York. However, if you choose your hotel wisely you'll be able to walk to most of the places you desire seeing.

The Belvedere is a lovely hotel in an older building in Theater District on Manhattan's West Side. The architecture has all the solidity of a turn-of-the-century structure but the hotel has been charmingly redone to contemporary standards. The staff is very friendly in a genuine way. Our eleventh floor guest room was comfortable and clean. The decorative details gave the room a special feeling. The rooms are not overly-large but can lodge, in my opinion, two people extremely comfortably or three quite comfortably for extended stays.I would suggest the standard room holds four adults for stays of three nights or fewer; it could begin to get a little cramped after a few days and the beds are full-siz...Read More

This four-star property is on the very East Side of Manhattan, directly across from the United Nations. A lot of diplomats and senators stay at the Millenium. Consequently, security in this area is truly excellent. If you have ever been nervous about visiting New York because you've heard about the crime, this may the spot for you. The rooms are spacious and equipped with a small refrigerator and sink. There is also a safe, hairdryer, and complimentary toiletries including body lotion and shower cap. The soap is really high-quality; mild and creamy at the same time. What is not complimentary is the little basket of munchies in the room; there is a price card also in the basket and you must be v...Read More

This deli is around the corner from the Belvedere Hotel. My husband and I promptly went there to stock up on snacks and soft drinks after checking in at 11 pm at night. They are cheerfully open late with a variety of grocies and sundries as welll as a deli menu that includes sandwiches (including a Vegetarian Brie Baguette and a Reuben)and salads and desserts. It's not posh but it is comprehensive and the food is good. The neighborhood is active late at night and you can walk to Z Deli without trouble if you keep your common sense firmly attached.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the most renowed cultural institutions in the United States with world-class collections of antiquities, Impressionist paintings and musical instruments, among other exhibits. The beautiful thing about a trip to the Met is that it can be as short or as long as you want it to be, and as inexpensive or posh as you wish. If you want to take in one exhibit and then go to the adjecent Cental Park you may, if you want to make it the focal point of your trip to New York and visit every day for four days you can do that too. Food options range from reasonably priced snacks to gourmet cafe dining requiring reservations. Guided tours are available in Engl...Read More
