Overview

If you love shopping, this is the right place to be, The City Centre, Bur Juman, Wafi Centre and Lamcy Plaza shopping malls are full of designer and famous international names along with nice cafes and restaurants and quite good prices on some designer wear and jewellery.

A visit to the Gold Souk/Sona Bazzar is a must, just to see a street full of gold shops, with its intricately designed wooden gateway you will not miss the Gold Souk, its not called the City of Gold for nothing!

The desert safari is about 40mins away from Jumeirah, an exciting ride in a 4WD rolling up and down the dunes, visit the camel farm, most importantly watch the sunset down into the dunes a truly breathtaking sight!

And the evening with a barbecue dinner at a desert camp site with Arabic style seating arranged, a lady who will put henna in any design you like and get entertained by a belly dancer whilst enjoying your meal! One hotel I visited the "Royal Mirage" in the Jumeirah area for a drink one evening, a beautiful Moroccan style design, very elegant and a nice arabic feel to the place, the designs, furnishing, doorways all quite impressive, a visit to the the hotel will leave a lasting impression.

A place worth visiting if you want to getaway from modern structures, definitely a contrast in comparison to the Jumeirah beach hotel and the Burj Al Arab.

Quick Tips:

Try and haggle a little when shopping do not agree to the price on the label as the shop assistant will readily negotiate a price, why pay more when you can haggle.

Best Way To Get Around:

Taxis are readily available wherever you go and are an ideal way to get around. If its your first visit you will find taxis a good way to get around and cover alot of areas - mind you its not always cheap. The Gold Souk area can be covered on foot and small alleys will lead you to small specialist shops. Driving is not a problem you will find people willing to race you down the high way, if you are an experienced driver not a problem, it may prove to be enjoyable. The big wide open roads are inviting.

Jumeirah Beach HotelBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "The Jumeirah Beach Hotel"

Its truly an excellent and comfortable hotel, the staff are very friendly and has about 16 different restaurant/bars to choose from, its own private beach. A good shuttle service which takes you into the City and different tourist spots daily. The rooms are spacious with the most beautiful view overlooking the Arabian sea and the Burj Al Arab. The building itself is a work of art. Everyone from concierge, reception to housekeeping were great and truly make your stay as comfortable as possible. Definitely recommend a visit there atleast once, its a great hotel! I know I will go back. It has a great Gym and Spa for those that are fitness fanatics I was there every morning.

Cafe HavanaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Cafe Havana a huge cafe on the Mezzanine floor of City Centre in Deira. A very relaxing and informal setting with lots of green plants in ceramic pots, wicker chairs and tables even soft plush sofas. Once you sit down you won't want to move! Very comfortable and a great social atmosphere, people come here to relax and have a drink or meet for lunch even discuss business.

A simple lunch or tea for two will set you no more than Dhs30. A great place to unwind and relax after a shopping expedition in the centre! The cafe is visually inviting and the staff very attentive. The food was simple and great, ideal for a light lunch or just a drink and see the world go by or shoppers go by!!

Dubai MuseumBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This museum is built under an old fort, the Al Fahidi Fort. Its the best way to learn how the UAE especially Dubai developed over the years, from a desert land into one of the world's most cosmopolitan and vibrant cities in the world. How the people lived many years ago you will also get an insight into the Bedouin lifestyle (an Arabic tribe).

Dubai Desert SafariBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Sundowner Dune dinner/Desert Safari"

The "Sundowner Dune Dinner" is an experience one will not forget! It's a definite must when visiting Dubai and can be enjoyed with friends and family. The desert safari can be booked through a number of tours companies, 'Arabian Adventures' is one of many companies who specialise in these trips. This trip starts in the afternoon, your tour guide will pick you up in a 4WD and will proceed to the desert where you will get plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the desert. Afterwhich you start the exhilirating ride of the 4WD rolling up and down the dunes. In between you stop at a camel farm then proceeding further into the desert you stop to see the sun set down into the dunes. A totally breathtaking view, to enjoy it even better try and climb up one of the dunes and enjoy the spectacle. From there your guide will take you to a desert campsite set up for an evening of BBQ and entertainment. You can choose to relax or go for a camel ride, have henna put on by a local lady or simply relax with a drink on traditional Arab style seating. A buffet style BBQ is set up with a variety of delights! Whilst enjoying your meal you will be entertained by a group of male Arab dancers followed by a belly dancer who will surely get you up on your feet! If you fancy you can try a "sheesha" (also known a hubbly bubbly) which is set up for you to try. A sheesha, a smoking implement packed with either apple or liqorice flavoured tabacco. A nice way to end a memorable evening with a cup of arabic coffee (qahwa). Afterwhich your guide will proceed the return journey back to your hotel. All 4WD travel in a convoy. The nighttime driving through the desert is just something else! A great way to end a trip in Dubai!
