Fjordland National Park is the largest wilderness in New Zealand. Saltwater fjords wander below 4,000 ft. tall mountains and rainforest valley's hide waterfalls casting rainbows over immense ferns. The Milford Sound Road is the only public access. The other 2 require guide assisted tours with fjordland travel, scenic flight trips, or trekking companies.
Te-Anau is a low-key town offering the most in accommdations for the park. We took the boat ride to the GlowWorm caves which is where Tinkerbell really lives. Sadly, we arrived too late to take the full day trip with Fjordland Travel to the DOUBTFUL SOUND which is a few degrees less scenic than Milford, with half the tourists!
