East of Jackson on Highway 88. An Indian ceremonial site with roundhouse and an extensive grinding rock with hieroglyphs and adjacent museum, all accessible by wheelchair.

Overview

Pour over the rock and recall the Indian women grinding corn for celebrations. The museum has reconstructions of tools, drying sheds, baskets, lots of Maidu artifacts and maps. This is a great place to take a batch of school kids, or your elderly personage who needs a refreshing dose of nature and history.

Quick Tips:

Nobody heads away from towns without water, warm clothes and a picnic basket.

Best Way To Get Around:

Take your own car, van or RV. The restrooms are accessible and possibly open outside museum hours. A fine big meadow for birds and small animals, with a campground nearby.
