Las Vegas Long Weekend

A February 2002 trip to Las Vegas by lance73

Quote: We had a great long Presidents Day weekend in Vegas. Our first trip was well worth it! My wife is not a gambler, but she loves to shop. There was tons of stuff for us both to enjoy. If you are looking for an inexpensive trip, Vegas is for you!

Las Vegas Long Weekend

Some of the highlights of our trip include: Visiting the Red Rock Canyon; all the great shopping for my wife; late night gambling; and visiting the wonderful (albeit HUGE) hotels

Quick Tips:

On our next trip we'll plan to use the free trams and shuttles, taxis get expensive. Also, we are going to do more shows and less gambling.

Best Way To Get Around:

Public free transit.

VERY NICE!! And right in the middle of everything! This place has it all, and at the right price. The only small problem was the amount of gambling to get any comps... a lot! If I were you I would stay here and gamble at the "smaller" hotels. Aladdin has a magnificant mini-shopping mall attached that is worth a stroll. Watch for the artificial thunderstorm every half hour. There are several eating places in the "desert passage" and loads of boutique shops. The Blue Note night club is attached to the Aladdin and makes for very nice night, listening to some blues and having a great southern cooked meal. New York New York, MGM, Paris, Belaggio, Venetian, and Cesars are all within easy walking di...Read More

The Harley Davidson is one of those "Hard Rock" type specialty diners. The food was ok, but you are paying to look at a bunch of cool motorcycles go by on a conveyor.

Red Rock Canyon

Attraction | "Hiking Red Rocks Canyon"

Quote:
This is one of the more picturesque locations on earth. It's a thirteen mile loop that you drive, bike, or jog, with lots of stops along the way for hiking, pictures, picnic or whatever. This is one of those places that people always talk about. You might not remember Cesars Palace, but you'll remember the Red Rock Canyon. The rock formations are breathtaking. At some points it's difficult to know if your heading uphill or down, the way the rocks and colors mask the altitude. There are several tours that will take you to the Canyon for the strip. We didn't use them, we rented our own car and went to Red Rock and Hoover dam on our own. We prefer the freedom to stop when we like, and to stay as ...Read More

Hoover Dam

Attraction

We rented a car and went to Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam in two days. We like taking our own transportation better, but there are plenty of tours to get you from the Strip to these places easily if you don't wish to rent a car. There are even some helicopter tours that can do them both in the same day. Unfortunately, we visited Hoover Dam after Sept. 11th. It was open and they were giving a "watered down" version of the prior tour. We thought it was a waste of time. For free we could have visited the welcome center and looked at all the neat artifacts and read stories of the building as well as gone outside and looked over the edge.... I can recommend going to Hoover Dam, but not taking...Read More
