Sabah - A place of paradise

A July 2002 trip to Sabah by Rainy

This is the first time I went travelling with my boyfriend. Sabah, being an island of Malaysia, is decribed as a paradise of South-east asia...

In the hotel we stayed, we enjoyed the private beach pretty much, because it's a romantic experience to walk along the beach... hand-in hand with your lover. Food is another fantastic fact in Sabah. We enjoyed Malay food pretty much, especially in a hot place, we always want to eat some spicy food.

Watching the sunset in the centre of the sea was another unforgettable experience. The sunset view changes every second, we kept on taking photographs every 30 seconds to observe the change!

Quick Tips:

Eat eat eat, and relax. It's one of the best places for holidays.

Best Way To Get Around:

The hotel we stayed was quite far away from the city centre, so we usually called the hotel's coach/taxi to drive us to the city centre. At the city centre, there is a port for you to travel by boats/cruises to the outlying islands. Remember, bargaining the price is very important. Someone may cheat you if they know you are a tourist, and you don't know the real price. Ask the hotel reception about the average price of taking a boat first.

We bought a package from Hong Kong (it included return flight and 3 nights' stay in Nexus Resort). We chose this hotel because this hotel is a little bit far away from the city centre, which is a good place for relaxation.

When we stepped in the hotel, "WOW", both of us shouted! It looked like a palace, you could immediately feel how elegant you are! The reception is very friendly, the staff could speak Cantonese, Mandarin, English and Malay without any problems. And everytime we have problems, they help us and they are very patient.

We enjoyed our stay pretty much. The hotel offered a great variety of activities. It has a private beach and a golf court. You could play golf for the whole holiday, or as my boyfriend, he rode a horse along the sea coast. We travelled by a small boat and saw the sunset in the centre of the sea. It's really very romantic, and we didn't want to leave the hotel at all!!!

Nexus Resort Karambunai
Sabah, Malaysia

We had our dinner for twice in this Malaysian restaurant, because the food was too nice to taste and the price was very reasonable.

It's a very hot day, and we walked around the hotel to see which restaurant suits us. We were attracted by the architecture and interior design of this restaurant. It has a boat-house theme, and the main material is wood... We felt like eating in a boat... very Malaysian, I should say. And every half hour, there was a cultural performance in the centre of the restaurant. They have Malaysian dance, if you are interested, you could join them and have fun.

We ordered a hot and spicy fondue. (You could choose chicken soup as the soup base) But it's the best choice to try the Malaysian style of fondue --- hot and spicy. It's very strange not to eat spicy food in Malaysia. There were two big plates of food for two of us. One plate was meat and seafood, like chicken, beef, fish, prawns, etc. Another plate was vegetable mix, like tofu and cabbages. All the food was very fresh, and the waitress would help around if you have any problems.

If you feel the food is too hot, you could order a cold drink to 'cool down' your tongue. Overall, it's the best dining experience in Nexus, and sure, it's the best restaurant in the hotel!
