A September 2001 trip to Mesa by PintoBay

After 7 months of planning this vacation, our closest friends and my husband and I departed on a week long trip to Arizona. I have always wanted to visit since I was a child. We were told It's hot but the air is dry!

Monday - We planned a one day visit to the Grand Canyon visit. Just in time for sunset. It was spectacular!
Wednesday - We went to Sedona for alittle shopping and lunch then a two hour sunset trailride.
The Sonora Desert is a great trip into a world of flora and fauna. Take lots of water.

Quick Tips:

It's hot but the air is dry. It is hot in September! Lots of sunscreen and light clothing but don't stay inside, there is so much to see. Do take plenty of water with you!

Best Way To Get Around:

We rented a car and that was the best way to go where you want when you want. Even if you do get lost and end up stopped in the middle of nowhere for road construction by the Arizona Department of Transportation.

We had a two bedroom lockoff unit. It had a central living room, dining area, and full kitchen, with a washer/dryer, television and phone. Off to either side with outside doors onto a balcony, were the two bedrooms. The one side had a mini-kitchen, sitting area, jacuzzi tub, television, phone. The other bedroom had a huge bathroom, television, phone. Lots of privacy!

Best Things About the Resort:
Beautiful surroundings, the view of Red Mountain from our balcony was stunning. It doesn't matter if you don't golf. The grounds are nice and GREEN in a land of sand.

Resort Experience:
We had two bedrooms with private baths and they were separated by the full kitchen, dining living room. So each couple had a very private area.

We had everything you can imagine, air-condition, washer/dryer, whirlpool tub, three tv's, and three telephones, microwave, dishwasher; the works.

We had a balcony facing the Red Mountains and overlooking the golf greens and spent each morning and evening outside even tho the temperature was in the 90's.

We chose to cook in for two meals a day and that worked out great. Our first trip to the grocery store was funny, we had more "beverages" than actual food!

The Sonora Desert was a great trip into a world of flora and fauna. Tarantulas, birds, mammals of all sorts, caves and desert plants of all sizes and shapes. Truly an educational day for everyone.

Attraction

Grand Canyon
We planned to set Guinness Record for most seen/farthest drive in one day on a Grand Canyon visit. It was cold and began to rain. Clouds blocked the sun. After quickly surveying the vista it’s clear this is the ultimate view. It is humbling and no words can describe it. Back to the car!

Dinner is catered out of the Buick’s trunk. Meanwhile, we are painfully aware that the sun has come out from behind the clouds for one last look at the canyon. We quickly ran to Yavapai Point just in time for sunset. It was spectacular.

Trailhorse Adventure
We arrived in Sedona in the early afternoon. Shopping and eating consumed the first few hours of the visit, our trail ride is the highlight for today. A two hour sunset ride was the basis for the entire trip. The ride was much more than we expected. Narrow trails, up steep inclines, back down equally steep terrain and through beautiful Oak Creek. A light drizzle (rain in Arizona!!) accompanied by booming thunder added to the overall experience.

They offer one-hour and two-hour rides. Also offer a sunset ride with a cookout which we would like to do if we ever go back. Their phone number is 1-800-723-3538 or go to www.trailhorseadventures.com.
