Arches and Canyonlands NP

Overview

Quote:
The Fiery Furnace walk in Arches National Park and the Delicate Arch walk at sunset were both great.

Quick Tips:

Off season (late April) crowds are fairly light. Get up early and have some trails to yourself.

Best Way To Get Around:

Miguel's Baja Grill Ramada Inn-Moab

Restaurant | "Miguel's Baja Grill"

Quote:
The fish tacos at Miguel's are not to be missed. The staff was nice and the outdoor dining area was very comfortable. Unlike some other resturants in Moab, they seemed like they wanted your business.

City Market Food & Pharmacy

Restaurant | "City Market"

Quote:
Budget travelers should know to rely on the local grocery for cheap meals. In Moab, the City Market should be a top destination. The dining scene in Moab seems mostly geared towards wealthier visitors or families. The food is either trendy or Ponderosa-style. In other words it's feast or famine. Too many places serve Bennigans quality at quality-dining prices. Stick with the grocery and you'll DIY happily.

Take this great walk at sunset. A lot of people catch this great view but it's worth it. The arch is lit very dramatically and the surrounding rocks and mountains glow.

The Fiery Furnace

Attraction

A ranger leads this three hour hike into a fee area of Arches NP. The trail leads through a labyrinth of canyons. Most of the hike is easy. There are a few places where scrambling is required. The age of the hikers ranged from teenage girls to retirees and no one had any problems. One of the best things about this hike is its informative nature. The ranger spent a lot of time explaining the desert environment. This hike will give you a better appreciation of the sights and the science of this area. Be sure to make a reservation as soon as you arrive at Arches. We had to return the following day to take the hike.

The Moab area has a lot of distinctive rock art. This petroglyph can be found en route to the Needles section of Canyonlands National Park.

The Grand View Point hike gives you the best perspective of Island in the Sky. The hike takes you along the canyon rim and offers fabulous views of the area. The Island in the Sky is situated on a mesa which showcases a variety of canyons hundreds of feet below the trail.

Attraction | "Mesa Arch"

A short hike takes you right to the edge of the mesa and offers a great view through the aforementioned arch. One of the better short hikes in this area of the park. Some recommend hiking this trail in the morning. Save it for the end of day and save your energy for the better, longer hikes.
