The Majestic Grand Canyon

Overview

The highlight was looking through the scope at the Colorado River. You'd think it'd be bigger, since it created the darned thing, but it was so far away and so small!

Quick Tips:

I'd spend more time there, and take a burro ride, if I had it to do over.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking and burro rides.

Our tour took us to the south rim of the canyon, as it was January, and the north rim was covered in 14 inches of snow. I can only describe it the best way I know how. But we did see some interesting videos that talked about how the Hoover Dam came to be(we couldn't travel over it due to the terrorism of Sept. 11th. It's a major target. But I did see it as I flew home from the air.)We also learned about the canyon itself, how it was made, the history, etc. Despite the long journey, it was a site ...Read More

I'm not sure how many of you have ever seen the movie "Fools Rush In" with Selma Hayek and Matthew Perry, but it's about Vegas and the Canyon. Very appropriate for my trip, since I had come to the canyon as a side trip from Vegas. They told us the story of the squirrels. Before the canyon was made, there was a family of squirrels. When the canyon started to divide the land, some squirrels were stuck on the north rim, and some were stuck on the south rim. Each division of squirrels developed their own characteristics. They had more fur, and were a little bigger. The ones to the south were leaner, meaner, and scruffier. Despite their differences, they were the same squirrel - genetically. ...Read More
