My son says that Las Vegas isn't for kids because gambling is still everywhere, but there is so much for everyone to do, even families. The hotels with their fabulous restaurants and theme decors are amazing to visit, and we walked through as many as we could in the time we had. The food is to die for. We are delighted that we went to the top of the Stratosphere and rode the roller coaster. Our side trip to the Hoover Dam was very special. The fountains at the Bellagio can't be missed. I love to go to the shows and thoroughly enjoyed the ones we picked and want to return for more.Quick Tips: Unfortunately we didn't get to see O at the Bellagio. Make reservations in advance, if possible. The ...Read More

Our room was very clean and comfortable, and we had a very nice view from the 18th floor. Our room was in the section of the hotel that had been upgraded so our carpet looked newer than that in some sections. We enjoyed staying in this hotel, but one disadvantage or advantage depending on your point of view might be that it was not right on the main strip where we could walk to the Bellagio Water Show, the Venetian, or Treasure Island for the free show with the ships battling out front. However, it was convenient to any place we wanted to go by car and there were many other hotels within walking distance. Even the airport in Las Vegas is close to the hotels and it is a straight shot from the opposit...Read More

We ate at the lunch buffet, and there was more food than a weak willed human should encounter. The food was wonderful, but we overindulged, as we most often do at a buffet. There are many types of cuisines and the desserts are especially tempting. The Bellagio is a must visit location. We enjoyed looking at the flowers and the glass designs on the ceiling, but the fountains with the music playing in front of the hotel are unforgettable. They are something to see at any time the fountains are turned on, but something not to be missed later in the evening when Las Vegas is alive with lights. Picture a beautiful desert sky and a wonderful breeze to accompany the fountains and the glorious sounds of mus...Read More

We ate at the breakfast buffet. Why? It is unbelievable. Unfortunately, we shouldn't go to a buffet because we tend to eat till we can't possibly hold any more. Perhaps you have more willpower than we do and can eat just enough of what you want at a buffet. There is everything you can imagine for breakfast--fruit, breads, beverages-- although I can't remember seeing grits. However, the crepes and the omelettes are worth the time and money. After our first breakfast there, my husband and I cut straight to those 2 items first. The service was excellent. We ate there twice and would have gone back for more, but decided we shouldn't eat as much as we were tempted to eat. There was a line waiting to get in...Read More

This is a very interesting dining experience for those who want to get away from the buffets available on the main strip. It is a six course Morrocan dinner. The experience began when a waiter brought water brought to our table so that we could wash our hands. The meal consisted of shrimp scampi; harira soup with lentil, rice lemon, and spices; salad that was hummus garbanzo bean dip accompanied by assorted fresh vegetables; beef shish kabob; cornish hen served with couscous and steamed vegetables; and a dessert served with mint tea. The food was excellent. My favorites were the shrimp and the salad. We were a bit disappointed that beef was served instead of lamb, but the beef was tasty and t...Read More

When we we were in Paris years ago, we regretted that we did not go to see the Paris Folies. In Vegas we were determined to go. We went to the late show at the Tropicana and that is the topless show. I could care less about seeing topless women, but the music went back in time, and they performed songs from the 50's and way before and up to the present. Our seats were terrible at a table with 2 other couples who were on the stage side of the table, and I would have been behind a very tall man. Fortunately for us, we had an empty table beside us. Maybe we got lucky because it was a special anniversary, and our seats were perfect, even though for a while we thought that we'd have to move back. Gamblers...Read More

Stratosphere Theater

Attraction | "Viva Las Vegas at the Stratosphere"

Quote:
Our objective was the roller coaster at the top of the Stratosphere Tower. This is the tallest free-standing observation tower in the U.S. It was just added gravy that there was a fairly inexpensive and very entertaining show in the Stratosphere Hotel. We went to the afternoon show. We sat right next to the stage. I had thought it would be deafening that close, but it wasn't, and the seats were perfect. My husband thought the comedian was terrific. The singing and dancing were OK, but the comedians made the show. We were required to buy drinks. There didn't seem to be much alcohol in them, but the price was right, thanks to our coupons.

The Hoover Dam (also called Boulder Dam at one time) is one of the engineering wonders of the U.S. and of the world. It is approximately an hour's drive from Las Vegas, give or take a few minutes, depending on traffic. It offers an extraordinary view of the Colorado River and of Lake Mead, which is America's largest man-made reservoir. There is a guided tour which might require an hour or more of your time depending on the lines. It took me about an hour in line due to the number of people who were there. I believe there are tours daily from 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM except on Christmas and Thanksgiving. There are photographs and short videos that are informative which you can view at your own pace. There ...Read More

The Stratosphere Tower is the tallest free-standing observation tower in the U.S. It is over 100 stories high. It is very close to the Las Vegas Hilton, where we stayed, and we watched the roller coaster from our hotel and decided we might be fool enough to get on it. When we finally did, both my husband and I had the exact same thought. Why are we here? If something goes wrong, we are going to die. The roller coaster itself is not that bad. It's location, location, location! The narrow rails and cars go around the top of the tower as you look down on all of Las Vegas and the surrounding area below you. The only thing higher is the part of the tower on which you can be lifted up and dropped. Of cours...Read More

Spa At The Las Vegas Hilton

Attraction | "Sheena Easton at the Las Vegas Hilton"

The performer that we chose was the headliner at the Hilton, where we were staying. It was convenient not to have to leave the hotel after an active day, and we had coupons for a reduced price. There are lots of ways to get reduced prices for shows. We remembered her hits ("My Baby Takes the Morning Train" and "For Your Eyes Only") and really enjoyed her show. We had excellent seats. Sometimes the music was slightly loud for me, but she had a very good act, and she was also a personable performer- the kind of person you think you'd like to get to know. It was really the luck of the draw as to who was playing where we stayed, and we were not disappointed that she was there when we were. Most hotels ha...Read More

This was one of the most interesting experiences of this trip to Vegas. We had never been there on other trips and almost missed it this time, thinking it might not be worth the effort. What a mistake that would have been! We had free tickets that were given out on the street, but the cost is about $6 if you can't get free tickets. We were so impressed we actually made two visits. If you have any interest in classic cars, you will be amazed by the collection assembled on the fifth floor of the hotel/casino. There are cars that are valued into the millions of dollars. They are in mint condition. They provide a nostalgic glimpse into the past and into the development of the automobile. There...Read More
