York - you can get there from here!

A travel journal to York by conzo

To experience true New Englanders, you must visit York, ME. The locals are wonderful and it's the best place for just kicking around.

I like to visit all the small shops, antique stores, and flea markets. This is especially good on days that you can't go to the beaches. Speaking of beaches, there are two that most people visit - Long Sands and Short Sands. It's hard to get a parking space at Short Sands, and the meter is quite expensive, but it's worth it. You can walk from the beach to the downtown area where there are shops, restaurants and, most importantly, ice cream.

Quick Tips:

Take a ride up to the Maine Diner in Wells. The food is reasonable and the hospitality is great!

Best Way To Get Around:

You need a car to get to most places in York.

Hotel | "The Anchorage Inn"

The accomodations were nice, the location and pool were the best part. If you go off season, often the price includes dinner at your choice of several different restaurants. Definitely a good deal!

Restaurant

The food is great and the only thing better is the service. It's definitely worth the wait, which there usually is, especially on weekends. You must try the blueberry pie, made with fresh Maine blueberries. Visit the store next door, sign the guest book, and you may get a Christmas card!

I had a filet mignon here that I could have cut with a fork, it was so tender. The prices are fairly expensive, but, boy, it's worth every penny. If you are looking for someplace nice to have an exquisite meal, then this converted old barn is for you. Bring me home the doggie bag.

Lobster Barn Seafood & GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "The Lobster Barn"

There are two different ways to dine here. In the dining room you can get a full course meal. There is also the Lobster on the Rough, out back, which is more of a clam-bake type style with a playground and volleyball net for the kids. Very affordable, always clean, and lobster - well, Maine lobster speaks for itself!

Cape Neddick LighthouseBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Nubble Light"

You have to experience the waves crashing into the rocks at nubble. You can climb all over the rocks, and view from there the spectacular lighthouse that is situated on an island, reachable only by cable car for the lightkeeper. If you love the ocean as I do, you will definitely feel very alive there. Head over to Brown's afterward for ice cream and your day is complete.
