Need help with a trip plan for a 6 week vacation.

Posted by sh19 on November 17, 2009

My husband & I are planning to take thisd trip either in Oct. 2010 or April 2011. I know the large towns we would like to visit (Perth, Darwin, Urulu Ayers Rock, Alice Springs, Port Douglas, Cairns, Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide, Cooper Pedy, Melbourne, Tasmania & Kangaroo Island). Does this sound like a do able itinerary and any suggestions on other sites and how many days we would need in each place would be greatly appreciated. In was thinking if we would fly from US to Sydney and then onto Perth and then go clockwise around the country. Have we chosen too many places ? We are in oue 60's and prefer not to do any treking or long hikes. However we will do the Harbour Bridge climb since we didn't do it in Auckland. Thanks for any guidance anyone can give us.

If you haven't done so already, maybe you should contact your local Aussie Specialist on for assistance. You don't want to fly into Australia then immediately on to Perth. From Sydney it's about a 6 hour (additional) flight. That would be approximately 20 hours of flying from LA. I've done it and wouldn't do it again.

I also recommend you contact the tourism board or read more online. As Sharo mentioned... Perth is along way from Sydney. Realise that AU is basically the same size as the USA so going between Perth & Sydney is like NYC & LA.

The places you mention are not all 'large towns'. Some are very small. Some are not towns but entire states (Tasmania) or an island (Kangaroo Island) with many small towns.

You haven't picked too many places - and I'd say you left some off, no great barrier reef??!!!??? - but that's a lot of travel across the entire country so leave as much time as you can so you're not rushed.
